minkhollow: (here at the end of all things)
Cool things:
[community profile] queer_fest prompt claiming is open! I've already got a couple (I, uh, may have one of the stories done already). But go forth, grab prompts, write stories!
Challenge Accepted, in which you can level up D&D-style for doing the stuff you need to do anyway.

Meanwhile, Fic Friday! Leave me prompts here if you like, and I'll write you a short little thing. Or a longer thing if inspiration strikes.
in which I forget about the cut tag, oops )
minkhollow: (here at the end of all things)
Man, this week has not been my friend. I think the time change, allergies and Vikings ganged up on me. (But on the bright side, QUINN IS BACK IN MILLIWAYS. :D)
Meanwhile, Fic Friday! Or... Saturday. Whatevs.
I *did* actually write some of these on Friday! But my brain was pretty fried yesterday. )

So. Oz the Great and Powerful.
It wasn't great, but it was good. I shook my head at some things, but absolutely loved some others. (NB: I have never read any of the books, so I can't compare this to book canon. I know Garland!Oz and Wicked, but these are three distinct wossnames here. Four if you count the musical.)
Trailers of note first. Iron Man 3: NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE. I won't be able to handle it. After Earth: Refreshing to see two black people carry an action movie, but it's not quite my cup of tea. Lone Ranger:

Dear Disney, would it have killed you to hire a Native American actor instead of Johnny Depp? I mean, seriously. It's not like there was a big-name movie franchise that hired Native American actors or any...
Oh, wait. And Twilight's done filming.
and now, the spoilery thinky thoughts )
In conclusion: Yes, there are problems. But it's a good story and it has some wonderful moments in it.
minkhollow: (two generations of win)
Fandom opinion of uncertain popularity: I'm not sure Once Upon a Time has it in it to be more than a three-season show without getting horribly bloated. There are only so many stories and only so many ways to tell them without disregarding everyone else, and sooner or later they'll have to have whatever the final battle's going to be. I'd rather see the show go out on a high note than wonder why it's still going far past when it should have stopped.
(I'm caught up now, at least until Sunday. That was the second least surprising reveal they've done so far - Queen of Hearts takes the full Least Surprising title. But I do like that there weren't easy answers for anyone, and Charming trying to untangle poor Henry's family tree was hilarious.)

Meanwhile, Fic Friday! Now with optional commentfic edition (snagging guidelines from [personal profile] ladyoflorien): leave prompts in the comment section for fics you'd like me to write; they can be anything, anything at all! If you're participating as well, link me to the post where you're accepting prompts so I can return the favor. Since there is no 140 character limit here, the technical limit is whatever will fit in a comment. Prompts will be answered with a fic at least two sentences long, if not longer.
and now, the Twitter-side fills )

This crossover was the best idea ever. Even though it gives me all the feels (soundtrack included - and yes, of course it has a soundtrack). Relatedly: Would anyone be interested in betaing a Cold Case/Warehouse 13 crossover when I've got it done? My usual W13 beta doesn't know Cold Case well enough to carry the weight, so. (I also need to figure out how to share said soundtrack.)
Venturing into Freelance Land of late; it's slow going at the moment, but I did get a nibble yesterday. Oddly, I'm finding it easier than regular job-hunting; go figure.
Meanwhile, Fic Friday!
small but awesome set, this week )
minkhollow: W13: Claudia playing guitar (doesn't remind us of musetta's waltz)
Not much to report this week. (Though I am considering finally writing the Cold Case/W13 crossover that's kicking around my head. If I do... it'll rip my heart out, just like Cold Case does. Right in the feels, every time.)
Meanwhile, Fic Friday!
less than last time, but )
Also, if anyone wants to leave a shortfic prompt here, go for it.
minkhollow: (here at the end of all things)
Front-half-of-the-alphabet Yuletide recs, this time!
in which there are many good things )
Aaaaand that's all, unless and until I poke at Madness!
minkhollow: (two generations of win)
It is YULETIDE REC TIME, people! Starting from the back of the alphabet because that gets me to Warehouse 13 faster.
(As for things I wrote: Four out of four recips very happy with their stories. Which makes me especially happy because - that awkward moment when stories go live and you see someone treated your recip with something very close to what you wrote them. Not that I blame the other writer; if it hadn't been my assignment I would've tackled it too. XD)
anyway, recs! )
minkhollow: (what is this i don't even)
I don't really have much to say about Friday, other than: There are several discussions that bear having. Can we, I dunno, have them now and not place all the blame on one factor or another?
Meanwhile, Yuletides-past meme! (Current: Assignment's posted; one potential treat is looking more and more like an NYR every day [I like what I want to tell but I think I've framed it wrong]; another is almost to the minimum and I need to get off my arse; haven't claimed any pinch hits but I've saved a couple.)
link *all* the fic? )
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
Someone hit the car (parked in the parking lot, fortunately; no witnesses, but that makes it a little easier in attempting to run down leads) the other day. Back bumper's badly beaten, but hey, at least the car still drives.
But mostly: ARGH. (On the other hand, I've done a hell of a lot of Calling People I Don't Know over the last couple days. For me, that's a big thing.)

Meanwhile, Fic Friday!
in which fics are written on Friday )
minkhollow: (happy hogswatch!)
Dear Yule Goat,
herein lies fandom squee )
In closing: Thank you so much, once again! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. :D
minkhollow: Robert Redford pointing, from Sneakers (sometimes i don't understand myself)
Finally managed to post my Yuletide nom list (protip: you can temporarily plusify a basic account, ?style=mine long enough to do what you need to do, and re-basic). I'm going for Villains By Necessity, Bell Book and Candle, and Sneakers (let's get some 20th-anniversary action up in here!); I'll just have to pray one of my possible fourths makes it in.
Campaign season's gearing up, and I'm going to help Quinn do a lot of the things. Meanwhile, #FicFriday returns with a vengeance!
Once Upon a Time/XMFC, Warehouse 13, Greek mythos via Percyverse )
minkhollow: (not to be taken away)
Since my grandfather will not go to hospice, hospice has come to him. (Frankly, I think this should have happened months ago; my grandmother was never prepared to be a caregiver, and I think she's finally stopped pretending she can do it by herself.) So who knows what's going to happen from here, but at least he'll be a little more comfortable.
Meanwhile: #FicFriday!
so far: Percyverse, W13/XMFC, Disc, Disc/W13, XMFC/Once Upon a Time )
minkhollow: (look at my wrist!)
Hil was here over the weekend! I greatly approve of being in the same place as people, though I don't know if any of the three of us are going to play Monopoly the same way again. XD
We went and saw Brave yesterday. In conclusion: EPIC WIN. It's a funny and brilliant movie.

Meanwhile, a meme:
Inspired by Doctor Who's "Turn Left:" Pick one of my stories and tell me a point in the tale that you'd change. Something tiny (e.g. "and then Fay chose silver glitter instead of gold") or big (e.g. "and then Rose was arrested instead of Jack") and I'll tell you how that one difference would have altered the course of the entire story.
minkhollow: (burn down that bridge)
Things I need to do tomorrow:

*call store here, talk to GM (call back first week of July; things look good to go)
*email guy about apartment (holy crap we're viewing an apartment on Friday!!!!!)
*process dishes
*process laundry
*make grocery list
*unearth kitchen island

*EP of some kind, possibly

Things found today: Bell, Book and Candle on DVD. Totally pounced on a movie that's as old as my father, but it's a damn good one. (Also, main characters never share my name in things, but this one does! Also also: Kim Novak. Your argument is invalid.)
minkhollow: Robert Redford pointing, from Sneakers (sometimes i don't understand myself)
ugh, plagues are no fun. This was actually bad enough I called off (all the crud in my head went into my ears, this morning; I don't recommend it). Worse? Not only not sleeping well, but having a dream about how badly you've slept.
But that's not what I'm here for. I'm here for a bit of Out of Context Theatre from the other night:

[personal profile] quinby, talking about the Weasley twins: They do as they damn well please.
me: ...no. No. THAT IS NOT A MEETING THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN. ::cracks up::
[personal profile] quinby: ::cracks up as well::
minkhollow: (destiny! destiny!)
Tonight in Out Of Context Theatre: "There is no place for Slytherin in Starfleet!"
That is all.
