minkhollow: W13: Rebecca/Jack snogging in the car (our love is a love'll not fade away)
Happy new year, everybody. And now, YULETIDE REVEALS. This year I wrote:

Equus ferus malus (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog), my assignment and exactly my favorite kind of fic to do: Working from scraps! My recip asked for Bad Horse backstory, and this is what came forth. (Annnnnd now I can go read "Equus malus" because apparently there's only one thing to call Bad Horse fic. XD)

A Word to the Wise (Warehouse 13), in which Rebecca and Jack investigate a mail deluge and Privilege Is Discussed. As best as you can discuss privilege in 1960, at least.

The Tragedy of Oswald, Prince of Volinar (Villains By Necessity); I had grand plans for a VBN treat, but what really wanted to be written was That Time Cata And Sam Mocked Not!Hamlet. ([personal profile] ceitfianna, I believe you can call in an 'I guessed it!' fic request.)

Time is the healer (but oh how it flies) (Warehouse 13), in which Claudia decides to treat HG like a grieving human being for a change rather than let her stew in her own juices.

Many, many thanks to [archiveofourown.org profile] wyomingnot for "Whistler's Coda"! It was wonderful.
Commentaries on my fics, as is tradition, will go up on [personal profile] afewsmallrepairs just as soon as I get around to posting them.
minkhollow: (what is this i don't even)
I don't really have much to say about Friday, other than: There are several discussions that bear having. Can we, I dunno, have them now and not place all the blame on one factor or another?
Meanwhile, Yuletides-past meme! (Current: Assignment's posted; one potential treat is looking more and more like an NYR every day [I like what I want to tell but I think I've framed it wrong]; another is almost to the minimum and I need to get off my arse; haven't claimed any pinch hits but I've saved a couple.)
link *all* the fic? )
minkhollow: (meet you in the next world)
One of these days, I will have an icon for an OTP that is not completely doomed; today is not that day.
I have not seen the now-infamous flow chart, and I don't think I want to, at this point. But for what it's worth, I will show off the awesome ladies in my icons:
there are not many at all, but there are a few. )
Also, places where I have written things lately: The Doomed Ship Ficathon and the Bechdel Test ficathon.
(Also also how is it Yuletide time already.)
Still need to check out that gaming shop; still need to write more Vincenia; finally came up with a character for the brainwave of a couple weeks ago, but only one does not a story make.
minkhollow: (that other otp)
Not a super-whole-lot to report lately, but: This?
Is made of Win.

[livejournal.com profile] yuletide reveal, while waiting for dinner pick-up. I wrote:
*Snap Judgments and Premature Celebrations for [livejournal.com profile] kuteki; my first proper foray into Daria fic in years, and it was a blast. (Complete with a cameo crossover, for great being true to my fannish roots.)
*What a (Hench)man's Gotta Do as a treat for [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl; anyone who's read my Dr. Horrible stuff with Conflict Diamond and/or poker night probably knew this was me right away. XD
*and Look to the Future, a Madness treat for [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4; I wanted to give something to the person I drew into the fandom with me. (I may revisit it later, since I had more than this but was unsatisfied with it.)
And so, SO many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] melissima for Frozen Assets; I ADORE IT TO PIECES.
minkhollow: (plot bunny troubles)
Meme, via [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane: The first sentences of everything you've posted over the course of the year.
in which I discovered Dr. Horrible, and ran mad from there )
...Good god, I wrote a lot this year.
(If anyone wants to guess what the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide stories are, leave your guesses here.)
minkhollow: (happy hogswatch!)
[the scene: The dining room we don't actually eat in, where we have the tree up. We're opening presents. There's a for-the-whole-family present from my sister and brother-in-law, which I gave to Mom since she'd had the least to open so far.]
Mom: ::opens the DVD-shaped package:: ...Well. That's an interesting choice.
me: What?
Mom: ::holds up Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog::
me: ...XD XD XD

Other goodies include a D20 dog tag, Jelly Babies and Pocky, pens and a case for them, a pin from the Hard Rock Cafe in Cardiff (SHEEP PLAYING GUITAR!), a... Sid-from-Ice Age Pez dispenser(???????), Barnes and Noble money, and plain old money.
And the [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic of awesome. A v. tiny rec list is forthcoming.
minkhollow: (wtf mate)
+ New vacuum cleaner at work! NO MORE OF THE STUPID THING THAT EITHER DOESN'T PUSH OR DOESN'T PICK ANYTHING UP.
- We got absolutely slammed in the last hour today, probably because people decided they needed stuff after the football game.
+ Speaking of, what is this nonsense where the Bengals are actually good this year? I don't know what to do with this!
- So I pulled into the driveway and went to put my windows up... and they went up v. slowly, and the stereo cut out. And then my poor car wouldn't start again. Fortunately, I'm off tomorrow and Monday, and Dad's off tomorrow, so hopefully we'll be able to get to the bottom of this.
+ ANDREW BIRD ON WEDNESDAY OH MY GOD I AM JONESING FOR A CONCERT.
+ [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fever lingers.
+ Working on something for [livejournal.com profile] jossverse_bb. Funtimes!
Aaaaaaand GIP.
minkhollow: (lightbulb moment)
So, birthday.
Had a surprise! interview; jury's still out, as the place is taking more interviews, but I think it went pretty well. Stopped at Borders on the way back, then went into Oxford (after a stop home when I realised I didn't have anything for the parking meter).
...And hey, did you know Borders carries Dr. Horrible? I do now! Well, they're going to have to restock at the one I went to, since I bought the only copy, BUT.
Free-For-All GIP again. (What amuses me the most is I didn't even mention my love of icons of people pointing. XD)
minkhollow: (that other otp)
So there's the thing where I'm very, very tempted by [livejournal.com profile] jossverse_bb (and might have enough of the idea fleshed out to try to run with it). And there's the thing where I'm the last person to advocate premature holiday talk? But good God I've already got [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fever.
And my shoulder hurts like a lot. Not so fun, and possibly related to the two-fisted vacuum cleaner at work. (Thing's like fifty years old, or something. And it refuses to be pushed forward. Not Fun.)
Note to self: You have a phone call to make ASAP, if you want to go to that damn concert.
And GIP, courtesy of ye olde Free-For-All. (Why are all of the icons I call OTP icons for canonically doomed pairings? XD)
minkhollow: (evil smirk of evil)
Hey, so here's an awesome thing.
Dr. Horrible won an Emmy. Without ever having been aired on TV.
That, I think, is deserving of the title Epic Win.
minkhollow: (it's all about the information)
And now, a week in the life:
*I think we've survived the worst of the back-to-school rush.
*We found out on Saturday that there was a family reunion on Sunday (by virtue of New Mexico aunt actually being in town). Turns out our invitation was sent to two addresses ago; we last lived there when I was three. XD That was reasonably fun.
*Dog had a tumor on his ribcage removed this morning. Second time it's been there, and apparently twice as nasty as the first one. Dad was saying maybe he should've had it done before they went on vacation, but I'm immensely glad they didn't, considering how much I was at work the first week they were gone.
*Writing... does not continue as apace as I would necessarily like; I'll be taking prompts to that end soon, I'm sure. (I think I don't know enough about the world to invent the wedding whole-cloth that I need to, and I'm stuck re: moving on before I get that sorted out.) But I did post my [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb fic the other day! (And the art is fabulous.)
minkhollow: (holy wood magic)
So I have a soundtrack in my head/written out for my [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb story. But I don't know what else to do with it.
I'd like to at least post the list, but I'd kind of want to share it as well, and I don't have anywhere I can keep the files for any sustained period of time. I also don't know whether to tell the artist I have the list; they do fanmixes, their sign-up said, but... I dunno. I'm half curious to see what someone else would do with it, and half going 'but I have one set up!'
::shrugs:: I'll come up with something, I'm sure.
minkhollow: (what a crazy random happenstance!)
*Heeeey, Sorting Hat meme! That's pretty awesome.
*I have like six Dreamwidth invite codes. Drop me a line, if you're interested in one, and I'll email it on along.
*So Warehouse 13 was pretty interesting, but... I rather hope the Warehouse 23 people know about it, if the resemblance wasn't an honest coincidence. Otherwise, it may not be around too long, from the looks of things.
*I can post my [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon fic this week! That's exciting.
*On a semi-related note, I finally read the Penny backstory comic last night? And I kind of want to smack Joss A LOT MORE, now, OH MY GOD. (It does mildly Joss my fic, but I don't feel like trying to fix it, so.)
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (sunday in the sunset leaves)
So when last we left, I was saying I wanted to see Night at the Museum soon. Ended up seeing Star Trek before that, and ye olde museum click only today.
Star Trek was quite enjoyable. Needs More Scotty, though, and... I kind of want someone to write Tony Stark and Scotty being engineering geeks at each other. XD
As for Night at the Museum... in conclusion, WIN. (With a side of WTF IS THIS SHIT, at the beginning, but then, it's very 'then I get everything I ever--'.)
So, that's life at the moment. (Other than the fact that work is awesome and got Graeter's for everyone last week. FREE ICE CREAM. FREE AMAZING ICE CREAM.)
Also, with the genderswap fic out of the way, I moved on to femgenficathon, which is also a Dr. Horrible fic this year. (The prompt I got... sort of demanded Penny backstory, and I've wanted to write something along those lines that isn't her dating history anyway.) Finished that yesterday, so... now I have nothing to stop me figuring out my remaining Sweet Charity fics but writer's block. XD
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (then i'll market an elixir)
Random notes:
*Saw Star Trek yesterday. Simon Pegg was my favorite bit, other than the shuttle that might have my name on it and the fact that the Enterprise bridge had a couple of scanners like we have at work on it. (So... we have space-age tech? XD)
*I should have known that if I can keep up with "One Week," then "Brand New Day" and the middle bit of "Slipping" wouldn't present any problems, once I knew the words.
*Still want to see Night at the Museum at some point.
*Milliways plottishness looms, starting tomorrow. IT WILL BE FUN.
minkhollow: Dr. Horrible, caught off guard (ahhhhhhhhh!)
There are times I wish I had the technology/mad skillz to make vids.
Like when I can storyboard a Dr. Horrible vid to "Falling for the First Time" in my head, and really really really want to see it done. But even if I had the mad skillz, I don't think Hex is really up to the job.
Alas.
Going to try to see Night at the Museum sometime this week; Monday, if I can talk both my parents into it, or Wednesday, if I can pry Dad out of the yard long enough. Those being my only completely free days. (On the bright side, the paycheck for the week after next will rock - just in time to spend it all on loan bills. XD)
minkhollow: Robert Redford pointing, from Sneakers (sometimes i don't understand myself)
(Well, actually, they don't, and I do care. But that's another story.)
Mom Rickrolled people at school on Friday. Sometimes my family is awesome.
Got myself a copy of Mental Floss over the weekend, when I picked up birthday/Mother's Day presents for Mom. I miss that magazine; now that I have a little disposable income, I might renew my subscription. Still thinking that over.
I'm thinking of importing my fic LJ into a closed-membership community here; that might be the easiest way to do it. If I do, I'll probably call it wornoutmetaphor.
I've abandoned Dr. Horrible as my in-car music in favor of Disc One. I needed to get back to my roots; so far, I heartily approve of this decision. (Making Dr. Horrible work as in-car music involves putting things on repeat several times. XD)
An update on the epic genderswap fic:

Thus making it the longest single-fandom piece I've ever done. And the longest fanfic, as it just barely clears the Harry Potter/Sneakers crossover. Now, I wait for the betas.
