minkhollow: (shrews!)
A couple of squee-worthy things, one of which is a PSA:
*So I had a volunteer to move [livejournal.com profile] lower_tadfield into the Era of Tags. This is pretty damn awesome - though a lot of the earliest stuff is full of dead links, now. SO: If anyone reading this has moved website-house for their fic or pictures (and a few of you have posts in the tag, which is why I mention), hop on over to the 'dead links' tag and fix the links, if you could? The tags only go up to about May 2005, at the moment, but that's where the bum links are most likely to be.
*And now for something completely different: [livejournal.com profile] roads_untaken. Panfandom AU-versions-of-characters goodness. Go forth and join; it's fun!
(On a related note: WHY DID IT TAKE ME SIX YEARS TO COME UP WITH [livejournal.com profile] not_elvish. WHY. ALSO, HOLY CRAP IT'S BEEN SIX YEARS. XD)
minkhollow: Sputnik: In Soviet Russia, space races YOU! (space races you!)
Things from this weekend that are allowed to stay: Getting positive feedback during my radio show, earning money on Saturday, and the Good Omens audiobook (it sounds like it was read by a robot! Best audiobook EVER).
Things that are not: EVERYTHING ELSE OH MY GOD. And that's all the more I'm saying about it here.
My parents are not in fact insane, most of the time; it's just that sometimes we're insane at each other, and it takes a while to bounce back. (Still don't quite get Dad calling to basically say 'call your mother,' though.)
It's a good thing I haven't wanted to do anything but write my latest plot bunny all weekend, in a way; I'm up for the critiquing, which means I need ten pages by Friday. And there's the Crusading paper due Thursday, which... well. Now I have some notes for it? That I'm going to go try to turn into an intro, at least.

Gather all your RP journals, list the characters and any AU versions you RP. Open the post to the public so even lurkers can ask the muses questions. Respond with that RP account.
ye olde list )
And to make this more interesting, if you have any questions for me about the headvoices, ask them, too.
::insert obligatory finals-related Jedi Mind Trick here::
minkhollow: (terrified houseplants)
finals time is list time! )
Also: I am going to offer Hogswatch fics, since I feel like writing, don't know what to write, and won't have the time to make them Christmas presents. SO! Comment with a fandom (including original fic, to an extent, though this will likely mean Finch and Arden) and something prompt-shaped, and I'll try to deliver the goods before January.
(Also also, as was pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] trinora: You know what's hilarious? Club Guy cameoing in today's Dominic Deegan. I LOVE IT.)
minkhollow: Robert Redford pointing, from Sneakers (sometimes i don't understand myself)
Methinks it's time for a new list.
and so, one shall happen. )
So yeah. Thanks to those who've weighed in on the grad school indecision so far; I'm thinking what might end up happening is I'll apply to my short list and see how I feel from there. (And my short list doesn't want answers until February, so it'll give me something to do over J-term! XD)
Also, I think I need to make a new Hogswatch sweatshirt. My current model was too big in the first place, but now it's just ridiculous. Something to attend to over break, I guess.
minkhollow: (best of Queen fandom)
Get Your Geek On was a blast, barring a minor turf war over the music. And I'm fairly certain I missed Aria and Polaris, despite our best efforts to coordinate. (Guys, I think we'll have to try again at some point; at this rate, next semester might be a better bet. But We Will Come Up With Something.)
Quin and I didn't win anything out of the costume contest, but we weren't really expecting to and we still rocked the house (or such parts of it that got the idea); pictures will follow once I have them. And really, what good is it to be the DJ if you can't include a little Best of Queen to set the mood for your grand entrance? XD I think my favorite costume on the night was Sylvester-McCoy!Doctor (who was there with Ace and Arthur Dent).
Also, Quin now has a front seat, and a bit of floor in the back. That was a pretty epic cleaning quest in its own right, though I might apply similar to my room for a bit. (This is not the homework avoidance you are looking for. Move along.) And my license crap is now set to be mailed off, so I'll be getting it on its way this afternoon.
And now, the... doing of the stuff.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (it's oxidizing.)
Between stumbling into algebra and finding my knack for (and interest in) writing stuff, my math brain fell by the wayside. This became a particular point of contention in high school, often resulting in my loss of Internets privilege until I had proof my grade was going up.
But I never thought my teachers hated me. I knew perfectly well my grades were my own fault - or achievement, as the case sometimes was - and when things didn't make sense, I had the option of asking for help. And sometimes it was fun. (I still remember the first problem we tackled in precalc, and my non-mathematical answer to said: 'The car didn't use ANY gas over that distance because it was going in excess of 100 miles an hour, and was therefore a 1926 Bentley I was reading about over the summer!' XD)
Basically, this is a long-winded way of saying my mom called this afternoon; the math teacher I had my sophomore and junior years has cancer. Lots of cancer. It doesn't look good.
It's just... one of those things.
minkhollow: (song and/or dance)
I was going to wait and do a 'two memes for the price of one!' deal, but I am occasionally impatient. (Those of you who know me in real life are likely going 'occasionally?' at this point. XD) So:
Comment with one of my fandoms, and I'll reply with:

01. The character I first fell in love with
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't
04. The character I love that everyone else hates
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer
06. The character I would shag anytime
07. The character I'd want to be like
08. The character I'd slap
09. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise
minkhollow: (i'll melt the damn snow)
*Radio time: 2-4 PM on Saturdays. I think there's an online stream, if any of y'all not within the airwave want to listen to me be a geek for two hours. (Perhaps with a bit extra in front, since there's a break between shows... I get to fire up the transmitter.) Let me know and I can poke at the Internet with sticks.
*Sent off an email to History of Magic prof re: wanting to write my research paper about Good Omens. Shall have to have parents send copy up here if it works out.
*I shall have a [livejournal.com profile] quinby this weekend! (On that note, Drag Ball? Expensive.)
*I... think I'm gonna hope like mad the looming inclement weather will be enough to stop the MHC machine for once. I really don't wanna go outside in what weather.com says we're supposed to be getting tomorrow morning.
*Note to self: Stuff for Mental Floss. This is not worth blowing off.

Yahoo headline for the Cincinnati area: 'Crowley: No troop increase in Iraq.'
Just because it's a politician's name doesn't make me any less easily amused.
And now, Get Your Geek On prep.
minkhollow: (song of the viking)
HOLY CRAP
ALL OF YOU BUT ERIN IN PARTICULAR
MAKE WITH THE READING!
Good Omens and pirates and hilarity and win. There's even a sea chanty!
The link is to part one of two. In conclusion: WIN.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (short attention span theatre)
Wins on the day: This, for one. Also this, though I've no idea how actively I'll be able to participate. Oh, and this. XD
The iPod has been even crackier than usual today - dealing three songs that I lump together in my mind in a row, for one. Also following "Over the Moon" with "Fat Man in the Bathtub" (which also makes prevalent use of a cowbell).
::goes back to plotting and scheming::
minkhollow: (best of Queen fandom)
Psst. Renegades types? Especially those of you who've read Good Omens? You'll want to check this out. XD
And really, that's all I have to say right about now.
minkhollow: (happy hogswatch!)
It's snowing like a mad thing out there! Due to traffic time, there is no visiting Crystal, but since it seems there'll be a big family to-do after all, that's all right. (::pokes the cousin:: Got one copy of GO yesterday; who do you think needs it the most?)
Today: Package from Jen I and more shopping. Found a sweatshirt that'll work perfectly for my Hogswatch shirt plan; now all I need to do is finish up the stencily thing for it. Fun times!
minkhollow: (best of Queen fandom)
Costume was brilliant (and the weather was bloody GORGEOUS). There are pictures... somewhere; shall have to track 'em down. And "Another One Bites the Dust" was on the radio when I ordered my lunch. Fitting, that. XD
the rest of my day can be summed up thusly: )
minkhollow: (best of Queen fandom)
The good: afrai-mail!
The bad: Crystal left this afternoon. The world needs Octedays.
The ugly: laundry system almost stuck me with two loads of wet laundry. Not Impressed by that one. 'S dry now, at least.
the Halloween costume dilemma: )
minkhollow: (best of Queen fandom)
Today's activities: Sitting around in Blanchard and plotting to take over the world! (Or at least plotting to get everyone to read Good Omens, starting with the family.) Went in for lunch and didn't leave till after we'd had dinner as well, and probably educated several passersby on the nature of fandom while we were at it. Fun times.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (everything is unfin)
Trying to start my English paper - truth be told, I'm fairly satisfied with the amount I got done re: school last night, but I can't really put this thing off much longer, birthday or no. Now, if I could just think of a good title...
And I think I'm getting sick. Greeeat.
Incidentally, if I do it right, my 1000th post and 2nd LJ anniversary can coincide.
interviews! (From people who actually know me, even. Crazy.) )
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (heavenly chaos fandom (by Celestina))
Still have six gmail invites, if anyone's interested (considering taking them to [livejournal.com profile] lower_tadfield and proposing a drabble-for-invite exchange).
Speaking of drabbles, memeage progresses. Have an idea for the one I've got to write on my branch, and I'm still puzzling over two or three offshoots.
School... is school. Japanese: getting easier, but still might kill me on Monday. And thanks to self-defense (where you only practice with one side), I'll prolly be limping all over the place tomorrow due to tired muscles. Meh - I'll live. XD
