minkhollow: (i'll melt the damn snow)
Long, long ago, on an Internet far, far away, there was a game. It sort of sprang up organically and sustained itself for a bit over a year before RL and/or Milliways pulled us all away.
in which I wax rhapsodic for a while on the topic )
Anyway, cut to last week, when I finally got around to reading Unseen Academicals. It's an excellent book on its own, but a certain bit character's reappearance for the first time in several books caught my attention - and promptly hit me with a plot bunny. For now, I'm only posting this here, as it may not make much sense to people without the context. It's taking the 'verse we were messing about it and moving forward to a bit before UA starts.
(If anyone cares to try anyway: The first POV character in this is an OC I played for a while; the game premise, such as there was one, was that PCs - Powered by Celery - became widely available; yes, this is still my OTP, nearly nine years later; Adrian did have himself a fan club; one of the major in-game plots was Lilith having a go at Ankh-Morpork, with semi-disastrous results.)
sort of a love letter to the RP that ate my senior year of high school )
minkhollow: (two generations of win)
So there's a thing going around (probably on its way to becoming a meme) that's talking about characters you RP(ed). And it looks fun, so I'm gonna give it a whirl.
let's see what groups we get here... )
...I am amused that most of those were groups of four.
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
Meme time again, this time the one with the icons. [livejournal.com profile] jediknightmuse gave me a handful to talk about, and I thought I should actually post the meme to my own journal for a change. XD
in which I talk iconses )
Copy-editing gig continues apace, and has a way of making me think. Otherwise, things aren't terribly exciting here. Far as reading goes, I'm up to The Last Olympian and still very much loving the Percy.
minkhollow: (shrews!)
A couple of squee-worthy things, one of which is a PSA:
*So I had a volunteer to move [livejournal.com profile] lower_tadfield into the Era of Tags. This is pretty damn awesome - though a lot of the earliest stuff is full of dead links, now. SO: If anyone reading this has moved website-house for their fic or pictures (and a few of you have posts in the tag, which is why I mention), hop on over to the 'dead links' tag and fix the links, if you could? The tags only go up to about May 2005, at the moment, but that's where the bum links are most likely to be.
*And now for something completely different: [livejournal.com profile] roads_untaken. Panfandom AU-versions-of-characters goodness. Go forth and join; it's fun!
(On a related note: WHY DID IT TAKE ME SIX YEARS TO COME UP WITH [livejournal.com profile] not_elvish. WHY. ALSO, HOLY CRAP IT'S BEEN SIX YEARS. XD)

oof. Heating pads are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. (Apologies to Ben Franklin, but srsly.)
Meanwhile, a meme, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] sotto_voice:
Comment on this post, and I will choose seven interests from your profile and ask you to explain what they mean, and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your journal so that others can play.
in a nutshell: RP hijinks and yummy dessert )
Also, for great eventual PMOG fun: Link me to your LJ or IJ panfandom games! I know Milliways and the inn, obviously - and also MM, now I think of it.

So [livejournal.com profile] katmaxwell gave me some icons to explain. That shall follow; if anyone wants to hear about more, comment with them. Conversely, if you want me to ask about your icons, just comment. XD
my life in pictures, sort of )
Little else to report, other than I hope my midterms don't eat me alive, and my current music gave me a plot bunny like you wouldn't believe over the weekend.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (rpage: brains. yes they're edible.)
Gather all your RP journals, list the characters and any AU versions you RP. Open the post to the public so even lurkers can ask the muses questions. Respond with that RP account.
ye olde list )
And to make this more interesting, if you have any questions for me about the headvoices, ask them, too.
::insert obligatory finals-related Jedi Mind Trick here::
minkhollow: Sputnik: In Soviet Russia, space races YOU! (space races you!)
Today's Old Norse update: Ah, and now we have the foot fetish!
Also, since I keep forgetting to say: Hey [livejournal.com profile] falxumbra? You're a verb! Not just any verb, either, you're 'to be.' Exciting!
In other news, sometimes plots attack, and being stern at them never helps matters. (Though this, unlike the one most of the previous sentence arose from, does not have me scared. XD)
minkhollow: (but remember: i'm aquaman!)
And now, interests explained, as requested by Bee.
anyone who wants some to answer - or wants to ask about more of mine - go on and comment. )
In other news, the parents shall be home tomorrow.

Family thing was survived with minimal fuss.
Congratulations to those of you leaving us forever oh noes finally free to venture into the real world graduating today. Now I'm officially up for moments of 'wait, shouldn't there still be a class ahead of me?', I suppose. XD And Kelsey's already said it better than I can just now.
In other news, MM is kind of the best thing ever for curing fits of nostalgia. (They so picked up right where the original game left off. It's happymaking.)
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (rpage: brains. yes they're edible.)
Things I do when I don't want to sleep: Get an old journal ready for use in a new game.
And get all nostalgic over the old game once again. Not that this is surprising - I mean, the thing took up my senior year of high school and a bit afterward, and it was an utter blast. I still have some indexing to do if I want to get utterly everything saved.
...It's going to be so weird using that journal for utterly different purposes.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (rpage: brains. yes they're edible.)
And again - you'd think I would remember doing this sort of thing. But nooooo. XD Such is the benefit to doubling back and tagging things, I guess.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (short attention span theatre)
This? Is the sort of thing I go back and tag old entries for - I'd entirely forgotten that. XD
In other news, I need Hex back, and I also need Blank White Cards and company next week.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (rpage: brains. yes they're edible.)
Apparently I am verbose today.
Started tagging old [livejournal.com profile] discworld_rpg stuff, and got through two months of it. Witches Abroad-based plot included.
Pretty Pretty Princess!Ade still leaves me flailing.
Also, one of the best parts is giving myself a tag. XD
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (smell them!)
Found this while going back and tagging old LJ entries (note to self: Tag/memory old Disc RP stuff in appropriate journals?), and feel it merits redoing.
LJ history meme )

And now, a fit of dead-game nostalgia.
I mean, I'd been considering poking [livejournal.com profile] yakalskovich and [livejournal.com profile] fahye about maybe possibly bringing Teppic and Chidder into Milliways, after I reread Pyramids. And I got some mileage off of my OC's backstory, for creative writing. But... I dunno. I miss plotting with people in The Future (also known as Australia), and the email logs, and the pure silliness, and the ficbits.
And I still think IALVATJ is the best abbreviation ever.
minkhollow: (holy wood magic)
So I had a thought earlier, of the Discworld persuasion.
Back in the [livejournal.com profile] discworld_rpg days, I had reason to work out that the events of Moving Pictures made it to the Counterweight Continent, but only barely; given travel time and all that, they were only one or two clicks in when everything went to pieces in Ankh-Morpork.
But it just hit me today that there's no reason someone over there didn't make a click of their own. And now I kinda want to see the thing about the overgrown swamp dragon ravaging Bes Pelargic. (What's a movie parody without a riff on Godzilla, after all? XD)
That could, of course, just be because my brain is Weird.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (it's oxidizing.)
Good news: Financial aid stuff is finally set to be taken care of! Bad news: Despite temporary clearance, ISIS still won't let me register for the class I'm waitlisted on. I know I'm on the waitlist, I'm trying to get off it, you stupid program!
In other news: Today's CW journalthinger is shaping up to be yet another variation on some old Disc!RPage backstory. So of course, it's raining, and the traveling music deals up a song I associate with all that. Of course.
In other other news: ahahaha we are all insane.
