minkhollow: (end *all* the worlds?)
WE HAVE A GABBY. GABBYS ARE COOL.
Burning rice and stuffing up the sink is... less so. We need to go to the grocery anyway; Drano will be procured then. (I wonder if it's finished draining from my quick run of dishes yet...) There will be apple turnovers tonight (NOOOOOOOOOOOO).
Meanwhile, Fic Friday!

More as it develops!

Meme time! From Lexie:
Association Meme: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.
I don't know how long-winded this will get, so. )
In other news, Dr. Horrible is excellent driving music, if you don't mind hearing the same thing several times due to its shortness. Which I don't, as it is fun times!
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (skiing george)
So there was this whole thing on Monday where I got to the airport only to find that, while the weather in both Columbus and Denver was peachy, Chicago was so nasty it screwed up everything. (I choose to blame this in part on a certain retrograding planet.) That was not so fun; I got to Denver yesterday afternoon. So far, so good.
(Other than the part where Hex and the wireless network aren't really on speaking terms. That's not so fun. But, you know, there are other computers to be borrowed.)
Also, I got a nod for funniest sentence of the week at [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout, and I wrote some more of my steampunk thing during the layover yesterday. Fun times!
If anyone reading this thing cares to attempt a meetup-thing, comment and let me know; there's only one car to be had, so it'll take some finagling (and Friday might be the best chance, given that), but we shall see.

I think I begin to see the self-medicating value of driving fast and loud music. Nothing I plan to do on a regular basis, of course, but.
Weekend was most excellent; [livejournal.com profile] quinby and also [livejournal.com profile] _chibidragon_, if she made it over for the beginning of the show, now know the logic behind this icon. XD
Quin and I also should not be allowed to plot, as things like this happen. (I should also suck it up and give Iron Man a tag; will have to grok that.)
Signed up for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide this year, since I don't have college to get in the way, for a change. Put in Sneakers, Daria, Night at the Museum, Stardust (the film), and Villains By Necessity. Should be fun.
note to self: Milliways car keys posts )

yesterday/this morning, in script format )
Am attempting to find motivation to work on my final piece for noveling, tag my lingering slowtime (note to self: back room post about that?) and generally do other stuff. I'm sure it'll come. Really don't want to go to work tonight, but hey, it's the second-last time I have to do this particular job.
Sorry I haven't been saying as much here as usual. I think keeping the paper record is absorbing a lot of what I would say.
(Also, the new Flogging Molly is pretty awesome.)
minkhollow: Help!: The Exciting Adventure of Paul on the Floor (paul on the floor)
A meme, for great 'while I am chilling in the cracktastic game' (now with bonus [livejournal.com profile] sotto_voice!):
The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write AND give me another time period (Ancient Rome, Regency England, etc.) OR give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, etc.). I will then explain what story from that fandom I would AU in that era.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (those snow... mammals... can be vicious)
Because this will probably interest some people: Andrew Bird is blogging! (The things you find out by grabbing the paper. XD)
Otherwise, life's been pretty standard for school hijinks. Undirected creative energy, license to expect the Spanish Inquisition in Crusades today, email from the mother asking about my favorite color (sounds like art to me, but time will tell)... ::shrugs:: Not exactly scintillating, in this department.
But there will be a [livejournal.com profile] sotto_voice about the place tomorrow, and Hogfather-watching tonight, both of which are good.
minkhollow: (we are the US government)
I was not fated to bring home any food ever on this vacation, clearly. I have Pocky and ramen at [livejournal.com profile] toki_usagi's, lo mein at [livejournal.com profile] gehayi's (but that's okay, really), and chocolate I didn't even buy still with [livejournal.com profile] quinby. ENTIRE SUNDAY STRIP of me going 'Jesus.'
anyway, vacation recap is pursuant )
In conclusion, awesome vacation was awesome.
minkhollow: (burn down that bridge)
and now, a concert review. )
We missed [livejournal.com profile] metaphor and [livejournal.com profile] madbonnycaptain through flukes of timing. Oh well; perhaps next time.
Re: latest LJ fuss - minus several million for initial execution, but ten out of ten for owning up to their mistake in a timely manner.
Re: classes - you know what sucks? Two midterms the same afternoon. Sucks more? The first, which is timed because it's art slides, starting late, resulting in no time for last-minute prep before the second.
But they're both over now, and I think I did all right on them. So now (well, tomorrow), I disappear to Philly for a week. There will be less Internets than usual. Suspect I will survive by writing a lot.
minkhollow: Sputnik: In Soviet Russia, space races YOU! (space races you!)
Have achieved Little Feat tickets. People who were up for Mountain Goats, I'm still interested in some kind of dinner meetup thingy-do.
Also got the contract and edits for my short story yesterday! On the whole, I think my first encounter with the editing world went all right, though being jarred out of my own story by the editor implying a relationship that isn't there rattled me most of last night. That particular change, I'm not so much taking.
minkhollow: (but remember: i'm aquaman!)
Thing One: Password problem solved. So I should be able to take care of the network thingywhatsit this afternoon.
Thing Two: MOUNTAIN GOATS PEOPLE. Turns out Little Feat's at the Calvin the same night; as concerts go, that's much more my speed. HOWEVER, this does not preclude some sort of dinner gathering. (Lexie, Aria, you guys probably have a better idea of what restaurants are allergy-people-friendly, if that's something to consider?) I will also have Special Bonus [livejournal.com profile] quinby, as lead-up to spring break vacationing.
Thing Three: a meme!

Come up with the craziest theory you can think of for any of my fandoms (ridiculous crossover theories a bonus) I know about, and I will explain why it makes perfect sense and is in fact probably true.
(Fandoms: Daria, Good Omens, Discworld, Rent, Night at the Museum, Sneakers, Potterverse)
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (incendiary wit part 2)
On Friday there was seeing of National Treasure 2 with the Quin and [livejournal.com profile] sotto_voice. I have not seen the first one, but I know the basics, and the click was quite enjoyable. Good balance between the accurate bits and the 'we totally made this up, for reals!' bits.
I've decided the grad school thing is going to be better served if I give it another year to percolate and muster my application fu. Parents did not explode, instead opting to point out the job market's going to suck (which I know). And hey, they're still willing to let me go to Hawaii with them this summer; perhaps all that was required was a decision. In any case, vacation! (--Which reminds me, I should do a write-up of the Boston adventuring.)
Also, I have to call attention to the GIP for once, as it's not often one stumbles across icons quoting one's (admittedly a bit distant) relatives. Coolest thing ever, at least for tonight. XD
minkhollow: Robert Redford pointing, from Sneakers (sometimes i don't understand myself)
[livejournal.com profile] fujinsama: that thing we got to comment-chatting about last night? Exists, now, since the prompt suited.
[livejournal.com profile] ariastar: since you asked when I was over, That Crossover Thing.

My side quest to Northampton this afternoon went with little incident, and was quite fun. And now, I need to pack and shower and do stuff before the [livejournal.com profile] quinby gets here.
minkhollow: (i'll melt the damn snow)
[livejournal.com profile] ariastar: The snow shouldn't preclude the meeting-up plans, as my car is all-wheel drive. So, if all goes according to plan, what time should we shoot for? (If it doesn't go according to plan for some reason... shall we rain-check next week?)
Last few days, I've been expanding on Short Story What Is Being Published so that I have something long enough to send off with grad school applications. That's been going fairly well.
I think keeping up the [livejournal.com profile] embodiment journal is taking up a lot of the stuff I'd usually write in here. How good or bad of a thing that is remains to be seen. But, you know, I'm keeping up with the paper!journal thing!
minkhollow: (song of the viking)
SMITHIES! Where should we meet tomorrow? I'm in favor of Thorne's around sixish? That way we'll all end up in the same place.
The week has somewhat taken an upswing, despite the snow yesterday calling off the club dinner. (Foot of snow! Ish. And more on the way!) Also, Hairspray is an entertaining click.
::goes off to bed, muttering something about how if you're going to smoke with the front door propped open why did you bother going outside?::
minkhollow: (best of Queen fandom)
Get Your Geek On was a blast, barring a minor turf war over the music. And I'm fairly certain I missed Aria and Polaris, despite our best efforts to coordinate. (Guys, I think we'll have to try again at some point; at this rate, next semester might be a better bet. But We Will Come Up With Something.)
Quin and I didn't win anything out of the costume contest, but we weren't really expecting to and we still rocked the house (or such parts of it that got the idea); pictures will follow once I have them. And really, what good is it to be the DJ if you can't include a little Best of Queen to set the mood for your grand entrance? XD I think my favorite costume on the night was Sylvester-McCoy!Doctor (who was there with Ace and Arthur Dent).
Also, Quin now has a front seat, and a bit of floor in the back. That was a pretty epic cleaning quest in its own right, though I might apply similar to my room for a bit. (This is not the homework avoidance you are looking for. Move along.) And my license crap is now set to be mailed off, so I'll be getting it on its way this afternoon.
And now, the... doing of the stuff.
minkhollow: (the complete blueprints)
*Note to off-campus types (particularly the [livejournal.com profile] ariastar- and [livejournal.com profile] polaris_starz-shaped ones): GYGO. November 10th (next Saturday). 10-2AM (costume contest's closing at 11:30). Price varies from $1 to $5, depending on how geeky you dress. Be There Or Be A Rectangular Squar Thynge. (I'm sure you'll see flyers... eventually. XD)
*Note to [livejournal.com profile] therenegades (that I prolly should post there, but I'm here): So! I get to write about our fine club for ZigZag. If there's something you think I should mention, LET ME KNOW!
*Note to dorm: Anyone have a black Sharpie I could borrow for like five seconds? (Also, does anyone know the health center's stance on eye exams?)
*Note to self: Senior picture proofs. Deal with them.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (short attention span theatre)
So. [livejournal.com profile] lite_bright was over for a bit this afternoon, which was great fun. And then [livejournal.com profile] day_pirate came down and went "ZOMG PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH GUY IN AMHERST COME WITH ME IF YOU WANT TO LIVE!"
So we went, and it was pretty awesome, and I have a signed copy of the book now. Today, I think, is the day of authors.
minkhollow: (song of the viking)
The day got off to something of a rocky start (which might have been slightly residual from yesterday's fiascos), but then there were fun times.
Said fun times included [livejournal.com profile] crazedcrusader, [livejournal.com profile] starletfallen, Di, Saphie, and guy-who-apparently-plays-Link-these-days. There was Japanese market, calling [livejournal.com profile] dawning_star, Bee singing Over the Moon in the parking lot (I recorded about half of it) and generally being hyper, and Borders.
I now have Pocky and chocolate pandathings like those koalathings - yay random cookies - and To Wong Foo. It was only ten bucks. I felt honor-bound.
All in all, today is not fired. In fact, it might be considered for a promotion.
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
Meeting [livejournal.com profile] gehayi was full of awesome.
There was rain. And fog. And both at once. So the driving took a bit longer than we thought, but we're in Sara's room now.
Poor Quin is finally crashing from her lack of sleep. I might be for bed soonish myself.
But yeah. Hijinks have officially ensued.
