SO, CONNECTICON.

Most of what Quinn and I ended up doing was wandering around looking at other people's cosplay. that was quite a lot of fun in itself, though! Some win: Femme!Sam and Dean (in line while we were waiting to register; I pegged it when Dean flipped open her prop shotgun); Jecht and several Aurons (didn't see a Braska, though); Yuna; X2-flavor Rikku; BLU Medic; lots of TF2, actually; Rincewind and Twoflower, with Luggage; THE TINIEST R2-D2; Coraline's Other Mother staffing a t-shirt booth. (She offered Quinn button eyes, Quinn said they were probably an Artifact, she squeed and asked us for a photo.)

Win we got photos of/with: A gaggle of revolutionaries (they were handing out flyers); Moist and Spike, who we're 99% sure were Rincewind and Twoflower on Friday; Red and Snow.

I went to Neil Grayston's Q&A panel on Friday, which was small but mighty. And he said he would be back on Warehouse 13 (he knows the plan and everything)... IF THEY HAD MORE THAN SIX EPISODES. CURSES. He did also say he'd try to pester the writers into releasing the unfilmed scripts when all's said and done.

After that was the signing booth, and the highlight of my weekend: I strolled up to the table and went "Doug! Long time no see! How you been, buddy?" and he rolled with it. :D :D :D Secondary highlight was him following up with 'actually, I think I saw you around when I was eating lunch.'

So I'm just gonna leave this right here.

minkhollow: (fear is never boring)
ohhhhhhhhh my god tonight's Warehouse 13. I have SO MANY FEELS. (And I will cheerfully discuss them in the comments; 'ware spoilers.)
Also, does anyone know what next week's episode is supposed to be about?
minkhollow: W13: Rebecca/Jack snogging in the car (our love is a love'll not fade away)
Happy new year, everybody. And now, YULETIDE REVEALS. This year I wrote:

Equus ferus malus (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog), my assignment and exactly my favorite kind of fic to do: Working from scraps! My recip asked for Bad Horse backstory, and this is what came forth. (Annnnnd now I can go read "Equus malus" because apparently there's only one thing to call Bad Horse fic. XD)

A Word to the Wise (Warehouse 13), in which Rebecca and Jack investigate a mail deluge and Privilege Is Discussed. As best as you can discuss privilege in 1960, at least.

The Tragedy of Oswald, Prince of Volinar (Villains By Necessity); I had grand plans for a VBN treat, but what really wanted to be written was That Time Cata And Sam Mocked Not!Hamlet. ([personal profile] ceitfianna, I believe you can call in an 'I guessed it!' fic request.)

Time is the healer (but oh how it flies) (Warehouse 13), in which Claudia decides to treat HG like a grieving human being for a change rather than let her stew in her own juices.

Many, many thanks to [archiveofourown.org profile] wyomingnot for "Whistler's Coda"! It was wonderful.
Commentaries on my fics, as is tradition, will go up on [personal profile] afewsmallrepairs just as soon as I get around to posting them.
minkhollow: (here at the end of all things)
Front-half-of-the-alphabet Yuletide recs, this time!
in which there are many good things )
Aaaaand that's all, unless and until I poke at Madness!
minkhollow: (two generations of win)
It is YULETIDE REC TIME, people! Starting from the back of the alphabet because that gets me to Warehouse 13 faster.
(As for things I wrote: Four out of four recips very happy with their stories. Which makes me especially happy because - that awkward moment when stories go live and you see someone treated your recip with something very close to what you wrote them. Not that I blame the other writer; if it hadn't been my assignment I would've tackled it too. XD)
anyway, recs! )
minkhollow: Robert Redford pointing, from Sneakers (sometimes i don't understand myself)
CHECK OUT THIS AWESOMENESS, YOU GUYS.

Whistler's Coda, in which Whistler and Liz are the best people ever.

Also, the Standard Yuletide Challenge stands: Guess what I wrote and I'll write you a thing! I have four stories up this year, in three different fandoms.
minkhollow: (two generations of win)
First up: Welcome aboard, friending-meme types!
In other news, I have my Yuletide assignment and it is EPIC. I get to work from scraps of information, which is one of my absolute favorite things to do ever. It's also a bit of a challenge, since my typical writing style is very [thing]-heavy and the character my recip asked for can't [thing], so: writing workout!
But considering I'm within sight of the minimum word count and nowhere near through everything I think this story's going to cover, I'd say it's going well.
I'll be poking at it and perhaps some treats during election shenanigans tomorrow. (Reminder to the US types reading this: GO VOTE, if you haven't already. DO IT.)
minkhollow: (two generations of win)
Still have a bit of a cough (stupid plague).
Heat's on! OH BOY IS THE HEAT ON. Seems with radiators it's all or nothing. oops?
Hil found me a copy of Villains By Necessity for my birthday! It's in amazing shape, too; there's a slight crease down the front cover and that's it. BEST EVER.
a short scene from last weekend )
And now: FIC FRIDAY.
again, a smattering of fandoms )
minkhollow: Steven Banks: Elvis gotta write a speech now (elvis... gotta write a speech now)
I'm in Connecticut now! Connecticut is cool!
Meanwhile, a meme: Make up a title for a story I didn't write and I will respond with details of those non-written stories.

All that I ask is that you tell me the fandom. You're also welcome to give me multiple title-fandom combinations, which means either I get a choice, or you get more than one story premise. EVERYBODY WINS.
minkhollow: W13: Claudia playing guitar (doesn't remind us of musetta's waltz)
ahhhhhhh Things are Afoot and will be in motion in TWO WEEKS. It's hard to believe, really.
Meanwhile, #FicFriday strikes again!
OUaT, Warehouse 13, Percyverse!Greek mythos, OUaT/X-Men: First Clas via Milliways; will update if/as more occur )
Considering [community profile] disc_fest, though I'm not sure if I'll spring for it or not. (I'm not sure I can properly pull off the idea that popped into my head first thing.) But I have a week to make up my mind.
minkhollow: (whiskey tango foxtrot)
First, and apologies to those of you who've seen this twelve times by now:

For anyone who plays or used to play at [community profile] milliways_bar and hasn't been following the back room lately: Milliways is moving to Dreamwidth!

They're using the opportunity to free up many old and retired characters for play, as well as to preserve as much of Milliways' history on Dreamwidth as possible against the possibility of LJ going kersplut.

To decide what will happen to your character, help back up the game to Dreamwidth, and to see how you'll retain control over all your content, head on over here.

Second: Hey guys, I've been podficced! You Will Move Mountains got included in the latest Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology; podficcer's post is here (I'm the one at the bottom). It is fabulous and made me squee a lot.
...I feel like there was a third thing, but I've forgotten entirely. I may well go off and write something.
minkhollow: (huzzah!)
You guys, how did I limp along on Hex for so long? Yes, Hex still works, but...
Okay, sample story. I made some icons a couple weeks back in a fit of glee that someone out there might have use for them, and... did nothing because I didn't want to go through the hassle of Photobucket. So tonight, once I had everything ported over, I decided to do just that. It took less than a minute! HOW IS THE INTERNET SO FAST NOW.
But then, I did name this computer after a very no-nonsense kind of girl, so.
minkhollow: (what is this i don't even)
Hello from Rebecca, everybody! That being the shiny new computer (Becks for short, of course).
I was going to go 14" Toshiba, but then the 15" was on sale in a similar price bracket and I could actually leave the store with it rather than have to order. So I did.
Still getting settled into the new digs; first order of business was antivirus, second was recovery DVDs. (I have a DVD burner now! DVD burners are cool!) Still need to make .doc copies of my WIPs and get them on the hard drive, but otherwise I'm in pretty good shape.
Enjoy your pending retirement, Hex. It's been a lovely eight years, but you've earned the break from primary-computerhood.
minkhollow: (we are the US government)
And now that Yuletide is live, I'll share the stuff wot I wrote! As things worked out, I wrote three eras of the same fandom.

Madness: A Little Grace (Warehouse 13) for random_chick, a brief look at HG's pregnancy.

Assignment: To the Clicking of Time (Warehouse 13) for [livejournal.com profile] skitz_phenom, in which Claudia and Steve go to Oxford to solve a case.

Treat: Case Files, 1953-1962: A Selection (Warehouse 13) for Whisperslip, five cases Rebecca and Jack solved.

[livejournal.com profile] lionessvalenti correctly pegged one of these, which I think is the first time one of mine got guessed. Would you like a prize fic?

...and then it turns out [livejournal.com profile] lionessvalenti is the brilliant mind behind Moves Like Charlie's Angels, which also makes this the first time I know who my assigned writer is. :D Thank you!
Also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] estirose for the fabulous Villains By Necessity story and [livejournal.com profile] rosabelle for the super-special-bonus Rebecca/Jack (I started to suspect when it didn't turn up on your rec list)!

minkhollow: Help!: The Exciting Adventure of Paul on the Floor (paul on the floor)
Yuletide recs, part two (and the last), covering the second half of the alphabet and a couple Madness bits.
more fantasticness this way! )
minkhollow: W13: Claudia playing guitar (doesn't remind us of musetta's waltz)
In an effort to use this more, I'm putting my Yuletide recs here rather than [livejournal.com profile] foodless_diet this year. This is the first chunk; other than my gift fics I haven't really hit the back half of the alphabet yet. But onward!
my presents, once again, and some other fandoms )
In other news: Three out of three very satisfied recips. \o/
minkhollow: (happy hogswatch!)
OMG YOU GUYS HOW DID I END UP WITH THREE STORIES
STORIES. THREE OF THEM. )
If anyone wants to play the traditional guessing game: I wrote three things, but one of them's Madness so I don't think that's up yet. But if you want to guess, guess away! If you're right I'll write you something. (Comments are screened in the name of this little venture.)
minkhollow: VBN, text-only: I'm sorry if the nasty man woke up and wouldn't let you eat him. (snacktime etiquette)

I thought maybe if I have a client that works for DW, I'll remember to use it more often. And so, here we are!
Otherwise, I'm glad to see the back of the Christmas music at work (it wouldn't be so bad if they mixed it in with the usual lot, and I still don't know what makes 'these are a few of my favorite things' a Christmas song) and super-excited for Yuletide to open.
(And retooling an abandoned Milliplot as a fic, which is FUNTIMES.)
