minkhollow: (burn down that bridge)
Things I need to do tomorrow:

*call store here, talk to GM (call back first week of July; things look good to go)
*email guy about apartment (holy crap we're viewing an apartment on Friday!!!!!)
*process dishes
*process laundry
*make grocery list
*unearth kitchen island

*EP of some kind, possibly

Things found today: Bell, Book and Candle on DVD. Totally pounced on a movie that's as old as my father, but it's a damn good one. (Also, main characters never share my name in things, but this one does! Also also: Kim Novak. Your argument is invalid.)
minkhollow: (phoebe's song)
So, the Things that are Afoot: I'm moving to Connecticut this weekend.
It's been a long time coming, and I'm very glad to finally be getting around to it. My last day at work was Wednesday; I'll possibly be transferring to another store up there (the chain makes it ridiculously easy) and definitely looking for full-time work, which should be much easier once I'm in the place I'm looking for a job.
I have one more box for 'things to be shipped later' and no idea what to put in it; I think that's a sign I have too much crap. XD
I'm looking forward to being in the same area as my friends again. I'm doubly looking forward to finally not being in a long-distance relationship anymore, it only took for freaking ever. But it's well worth the wait.
(Also, I need to actually get this song at some point. It does that... 'grabs you by the heart and doesn't let go' thing.)
minkhollow: (look at my wrist!)
Tell you what, I am finding Unfuck Your Habitat to be genius. Dishes are processed as is fitting, shelf-like surfaces in the living room are dusted, I filed my local taxes (finally; I'd lost the account number, but the guy at the office was super-helpful in tracking it down) and got my computer information filed, and I started cleaning a bit of my room (and claimed my grandmother's jewelry box since Mom said I was welcome to it). And there's laundry going on, but there's almost always laundry going on.
(The key for me, I think, is plugging my iPod into the big computer and playing that rather than watching TV. If I get sucked into a show and then half the commercial break, I lose my momentum, but I can hear the music from anywhere in the house.)
Now is break time for ye olde copy editing, and then probably one more round of cleaning SOME OF THE THINGS, maybe two if I'm really inspired.
minkhollow: W13: Claudia playing guitar (doesn't remind us of musetta's waltz)
Free things: I have 5 Dreamwidth invite codes. Comment if you want one!
Not-free things: I have some stuff that I want to sell in the name of paring down my crap. Said stuff ranges from toys to jewelry (and a lava lamp). And I'm not entirely sure how to proceed with that. Any tips from people who've done it before?

And now, for a meme-free update: THERE'S A FLOOR IN MY ROOM, GUYS! I cleaned the crap out of it over my long weekend, and even decided it was time to get rid of the carpet (area rug, whichever) that's been in there since we moved here. Still getting used to the all-hardwood look, but I'm liking it so far.
In other news that merits capslock, I AM ON PAGE 100 OF MY NOVEL'S FIRST DRAFT. Technically I've been over 100 pages for a while, but that's with a few scenes written farther out than where I am on the plot, and I'm on the verge of linking the first of those in. I'm gonna have to poke at the timeline on it, among other things, when I really sit down to edit it, but for now I'm focusing on cranking out that first draft.
minkhollow: (i do not type with my hands)
So, [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti. That's an awesome thing, I think.
One fic each to the two highest bidders. Considering also offering beta services. But for now, I should get back to detoxing my room, I think.
(Also, the Barnes & Noble package is here! \o/)
minkhollow: (what a crazy random happenstance!)
Dear ten-year-old self,
Sticking the things around the stickers to your mirror? Was not, in fact, an inspired decorating choice. If anything, it was quite the opposite.
Love, you 13 years in the future, who just scraped that off of said mirror.
I think it's been a pretty accomplished detox spree, considering I only had two half-Swiffers to work with; most everything else in there needs one, as it's not wooden, so Endust is out. But there's a floor around my bed and across the front of the room, and I have a nightstand and dresser! Haven't seen the top of that since at least last year!
Also, I found three Barnes & Noble gift cards in my wallet last night, so I went on a shopping spree. I have a number of goodies headed my way, ranging from the latest Pratchett to one of [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane's books. Fun times!
minkhollow: (that other otp)
Meme time, because why not: If you could have me write a fic specifically for you, what would it be like? Fandom, characters/pairing, genre, plot elements, kinks... what's your ideal fic from me?
We're separating my ornaments from my parents' as we take stuff off the tree (hopefully it'll be of some use before December...). I have approx. a crapton of angels.
Tomorrow, I think I might try to detox my room (it's in desperate need of cleaning, partly so I can get my piles of stuff out of the living room and help Mom with her zen) and try to watch the Warehouse 13 episodes I missed over the summer. And keep poking at Vincenia; I think my writing spirits are buoyed by (a) finally having the nifty spreadsheet to keep track of the numbers and (b) having the I Do Two contract back in my hands. (PUBLISHING SQUEE, y'all.)
minkhollow: (it's all about the information)
*I have shoes I can wear to work now, and... more than one pair of black dress pants to my name. The latter is esp. good, as the one pair I already have is from high school.
*I have a floor in my room! It's amazing! Some of the surfaces still need dusting, but that's okay; it's a work in progress.
*I have Andrew Bird's new album, finally. Haven't listened to all of it yet, but WIN.
*I have... backstory for a character who's only going to play a bit part in the Big Epic Genderswap Fic. Might write it up as a separate story in the meanwhile, and because I don't know how much of it will factor into the fic itself.
*Dreamwidth: Yes/no/maybe/if you're this undecided you should wait for public beta? I wouldn't be likely to move shop from LJ, as that's never worked out very well for me in the past.
*Alphabet meme is still open for business.

Unearthed some of my winter clothes this morning. Dad wondered if I don't have enough drawers to hold everything, and... I probably do, but (a) I left stuff in boxes in May anyway, and (b) I rarely remember I have those drawers. My brain works in mysterious ways, more often than not.
In other news: Job hunt is job-hunt-like, I have committed crossover, and one of my original ideas is attempting to get noisy again. I approve of all of the above.

The music still sucks, but actually going to Millett for a game was good. I think Miami's gonna be pretty good this year.
Upon returning home, I made my room look somewhat less like a tornado hit it, which is always a good thing.
I... need to write. What exactly, I don't know, but.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (have you rehabilitated yourself?)
You know it's time to throw out your old magazines when you find one advertising Spongebob Squarepants as a new cartoon.
That said, I have more empty drawers than at any previous point.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (sunday in the sunset leaves)
My room is... about the cleanest it's been in quite some time, and I'm finally starting to get my bins from school back in here. I have the far side of my bed, and behind it if I'm feeling particularly brave, yet to go through/dust - but this is still Big Progress.
Parents acquired tickets to see Leon Russell, last night. It was... an experience; musically good, but Mom likened the first song to a manic circus, and that mostly held true throughout. Got some ideas for my steampunk story out of the night, though. (And there was a hilarious moment where Mom and I tried to share my sweatshirt - I was the only one who thought to bring something and we were both freezing. XD)
And now, I go... do stuff. Perhaps organising RP hijinks.
minkhollow: Robert Redford pointing, from Sneakers (sometimes i don't understand myself)
*I have a feeling home improvement projects are forever fated to end in Hijinks.
*Shower drain gave out when Dad tried to fix it yesterday; he called in a plumber today, and all is now well. (Apparently there was lint in it? What is this nonsense.)
*Have started cleaning my room in an attempt to find somewhere other than the dining room for all my crap from school. So far I... don't really have more space, but I have less crap! (EPIC UNDER-BED DUST IS EPIC. I demand boxes to put in my drawers.)
*So! PMOG! Anyone else on that, other than [livejournal.com profile] villainny? (If you're not, and you like steampunk-y games that require little actual effort on your part... have a look. I'm also minkhollow over there.)
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (short attention span theatre)
*Finished last final half an hour ago.
*Did last radio show Friday night. I... am gonna miss that a lot.
*HEY SISTER. When's a good time for dinner on the 24th?
*My room is kind of a wreck - actually, it's fairly clean for me, but re: having to move out in two weeks it's bad. But hey, I have two weeks to clean it, right?
minkhollow: (we are the US government)
I was not fated to bring home any food ever on this vacation, clearly. I have Pocky and ramen at [livejournal.com profile] toki_usagi's, lo mein at [livejournal.com profile] gehayi's (but that's okay, really), and chocolate I didn't even buy still with [livejournal.com profile] quinby. ENTIRE SUNDAY STRIP of me going 'Jesus.'
anyway, vacation recap is pursuant )
In conclusion, awesome vacation was awesome.

Meme-gacking (from lots of people) before I go shower:
If you had me under your command and could make me write anything, regardless of whether or not I know the fandom or if anybody even writes fic in that fandom and no matter how crack-addled it might be, what would you love to see me write? [eta] I'm not actually going to write any of these (unless something strikes me), but I am curious. [/eta]
And while I'm at it I might end up cleaning off the sink counter because... ew.
ALSO. [livejournal.com profile] starletfallen. PING ME WHEN I'M ON LATER? (I have a possible plottish thought thinger what you might be interested in.)
minkhollow: Steven Banks: Elvis gotta write a speech now (elvis... gotta write a speech now)
list time! )
I have clementines, if any of the on-campus contingent's interested.
And now, I figure out what I'm doing re: lunch.
minkhollow: Steven Banks: Elvis gotta write a speech now (elvis... gotta write a speech now)
and now, a list, in hopes it'll help me focus )
Other than that... I disapprove of the Viking horde's timing, if only because I'll have to be on my feet for three hours tonight and my back's going to be made of Ow. But I'll survive.
minkhollow: (best of Queen fandom)
Get Your Geek On was a blast, barring a minor turf war over the music. And I'm fairly certain I missed Aria and Polaris, despite our best efforts to coordinate. (Guys, I think we'll have to try again at some point; at this rate, next semester might be a better bet. But We Will Come Up With Something.)
Quin and I didn't win anything out of the costume contest, but we weren't really expecting to and we still rocked the house (or such parts of it that got the idea); pictures will follow once I have them. And really, what good is it to be the DJ if you can't include a little Best of Queen to set the mood for your grand entrance? XD I think my favorite costume on the night was Sylvester-McCoy!Doctor (who was there with Ace and Arthur Dent).
Also, Quin now has a front seat, and a bit of floor in the back. That was a pretty epic cleaning quest in its own right, though I might apply similar to my room for a bit. (This is not the homework avoidance you are looking for. Move along.) And my license crap is now set to be mailed off, so I'll be getting it on its way this afternoon.
And now, the... doing of the stuff.
