A question, before work:
So has anyone else who uses Adium had issues lately - in the last week or so - where you open the program and the AIM buddy list doesn't load right? Like, it says you're signed in but you can't see anyone who's on AIM?
I've found that you can fix the list by disconnecting/reconnecting AIM, but it's still weird. I was just wondering if I was the only person having the issue.

So PMOG/The Nethernet/whatever you feel like calling it is, apparently, going under.
some musings on the thought )
There's a refugee camp of sorts up, for the... what, two of you? who are/were also a part of the passive fun.

A couple of squee-worthy things, one of which is a PSA:
*So I had a volunteer to move [livejournal.com profile] lower_tadfield into the Era of Tags. This is pretty damn awesome - though a lot of the earliest stuff is full of dead links, now. SO: If anyone reading this has moved website-house for their fic or pictures (and a few of you have posts in the tag, which is why I mention), hop on over to the 'dead links' tag and fix the links, if you could? The tags only go up to about May 2005, at the moment, but that's where the bum links are most likely to be.
*And now for something completely different: [livejournal.com profile] roads_untaken. Panfandom AU-versions-of-characters goodness. Go forth and join; it's fun!
(On a related note: WHY DID IT TAKE ME SIX YEARS TO COME UP WITH [livejournal.com profile] not_elvish. WHY. ALSO, HOLY CRAP IT'S BEEN SIX YEARS. XD)
minkhollow: (holy wood magic)
So I have a soundtrack in my head/written out for my [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb story. But I don't know what else to do with it.
I'd like to at least post the list, but I'd kind of want to share it as well, and I don't have anywhere I can keep the files for any sustained period of time. I also don't know whether to tell the artist I have the list; they do fanmixes, their sign-up said, but... I dunno. I'm half curious to see what someone else would do with it, and half going 'but I have one set up!'
::shrugs:: I'll come up with something, I'm sure.
minkhollow: (what a crazy random happenstance!)
*Heeeey, Sorting Hat meme! That's pretty awesome.
*I have like six Dreamwidth invite codes. Drop me a line, if you're interested in one, and I'll email it on along.
*So Warehouse 13 was pretty interesting, but... I rather hope the Warehouse 23 people know about it, if the resemblance wasn't an honest coincidence. Otherwise, it may not be around too long, from the looks of things.
*I can post my [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon fic this week! That's exciting.
*On a semi-related note, I finally read the Penny backstory comic last night? And I kind of want to smack Joss A LOT MORE, now, OH MY GOD. (It does mildly Joss my fic, but I don't feel like trying to fix it, so.)

Some enterprising soul in one of Mom's classes whipped up Half Life: The Board Game. Not sure how exactly that works, from what I know of the game, but I was highly amused nonetheless.
Also, I've got another couple Dreamwidth invite codes. Anyone interested? ([livejournal.com profile] sotto_voice, I'll send you one of the now-three in a bit.)

So I was going to mirror my fic LJ on a community, but you can't import to those, apparently. And then the Invite Code Fairy visited.
So my fic LJ can now also be found at [personal profile] afewsmallrepairs.
minkhollow: (it's all about the information)
So this morning, I told my supervisor I'm willing to pick up shifts if people call off, especially over the next month or so, as ye olde student loans are going to make things tight. Someone called off; I ended up staying all day. (BEATS YARDWORK.)
I have a couple of Dreamwidth invites. I think I'm going to keep one to mirror my fic LJ (since you apparently can't import things to communities); anyone who's not in yet want the other one? If so, comment.
Having finished the [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb story (longest single-fandom fic I've ever done, and longest fic overall), I've gone back to the story my Blog Like It's Not You Day character is from. (Grace might be one of my favorite princesses ever.) It's a fun little story to work on.
--Oh, and speaking of that, does anyone who's done Script Frenzy/movie-type projects on their own have any online resources about script-writing? I think I'm going to try writing a story in that 'verse as a script.
minkhollow: (it's all about the information)
*I have shoes I can wear to work now, and... more than one pair of black dress pants to my name. The latter is esp. good, as the one pair I already have is from high school.
*I have a floor in my room! It's amazing! Some of the surfaces still need dusting, but that's okay; it's a work in progress.
*I have Andrew Bird's new album, finally. Haven't listened to all of it yet, but WIN.
*I have... backstory for a character who's only going to play a bit part in the Big Epic Genderswap Fic. Might write it up as a separate story in the meanwhile, and because I don't know how much of it will factor into the fic itself.
*Dreamwidth: Yes/no/maybe/if you're this undecided you should wait for public beta? I wouldn't be likely to move shop from LJ, as that's never worked out very well for me in the past.
*Alphabet meme is still open for business.
minkhollow: (all designed to blow our minds)
*Crystal, Dad wants to talk to you; give him a call, if you have time?
*Alphabet meme is still open!
*Two interviews in one sitting, Tuesday. I'm waiting for them to go through the rest of the interview pool, but I was the best of the best so far (and... also the first) as of the other day. XD Here's hoping.
*I know what I want in a Dr. Horrible ringtone, now: the first chorus of So They Say. Bouncy, ear-catching, and with a lovely twist at the end if it's allowed to finish. XD
*Icon meme, via [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane:

Oh yeah, that's the other thing.
My mother has officially beaten me to Facebook.
So given that, just how much longer can I hold out? XD
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
So I decided I wanted to do a [livejournal.com profile] horrible_awards rec set before voting closes tomorrow, and decided the journal needed an appropriate icon.
This turned into a minor odyssey; I nearly forgot the password, discovered the journal was still validated under two email addresses ago, nearly forgot my Photobucket password in the attempt to get said icon, rediscovered and deleted a second Photobucket account in trying to get that password, and ended up resetting my MHC email password in an attempt to straighten out the Photobucket mess.
But I think the final score is in my favor, since nothing looks hacked and I changed all the necessary passwords.
So anyway: Rec set! Go have a look, after all that trouble! XD
minkhollow: Sputnik: In Soviet Russia, space races YOU! (space races you!)
Weather Systems is patched up and sent in; here's hoping.
I think I figured out why TextEdit was munching things, too. Both times, I was working on the story that got eaten in one file, and saving up the day's word count in another. So either I need to use a different word processor (which has worked so far), or work all on one story before I attempt the day's word count.
Have tossed a few prompts in the pot at [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest... and gave myself a plot bunny on the first try. XD But that's all right; it should be fun to work on.
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
*Twitter: Yes/no/maybe? Why or why not?
*Self, yesterday's exercises in Google confirmed that it's not worth trying to find a Dr. Horrible ringtone, unless you can confirm a free one that's compatible to your phone (or the Phone Store adds some, one supposes). Pls to stop pining.
*If I thought I could do Blazing Saddles any justice at all, I'd write the story where Hedley Lamarr is a charter member of the Evil League of Evil.
*Applied for a bank-teller thing earlier. Also need to figure out where the hell my steampunk-writing brain got to and get back to rebuilding that story.
This concludes another edition of Scatterbrained Me.

...oh my God, TextEdit, you BASTARD.
This time? It ate Weather Systems. Which... I have more of elsewhere, but not enough. I lost last night's addition and the stuff I wrote in the airport last month, I'm pretty sure (other than the sentence I submitted, which is one byzantine piece of work among dozens that I won't have to redo... but STILL).
Why is it always the stuff I feel semi-confident about getting published - and, of course, forget to BACK UP?
I just hope I can get it rebuilt in the next week.
minkhollow: (anthill inside)
I have iTunes back (and a fully-functional Hex!), two restarts later.
Also, it appears the prices on the Discworld audiobooks have dropped by about half since the last time I looked; I could conceivably get two of them with my gift card money! I probably will only get one, so that I can investigate Dr. Horrible and this new Andrew Bird album I've heard about and... other stuff. (Like maybe the soundtrack for the cheesy Soul Music animated adaptation. XD)
So I'm gonna think that one over for a bit.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (look! up in the sky!)
::eyes previous version of iTunes, and loading OS X update:: The things I do just to try to get Dr. Horrible from my own iTunes store account. Hopefully, this time it won't completely incapacitate Hex; that would be rather upsetting.
(I need some Dr. Horrible icons. Anyone know a good source?)
(I also need a Dr. Horrible tag, at this rate. I'll grok it. XD)
to-do list: taxes (state left), loan thing (employment agency?), extend icons, book exchange thing, Look For A Job (ongoing), write things for Quin (ongoing), write original things (also ongoing)
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (skiing george)
So there was this whole thing on Monday where I got to the airport only to find that, while the weather in both Columbus and Denver was peachy, Chicago was so nasty it screwed up everything. (I choose to blame this in part on a certain retrograding planet.) That was not so fun; I got to Denver yesterday afternoon. So far, so good.
(Other than the part where Hex and the wireless network aren't really on speaking terms. That's not so fun. But, you know, there are other computers to be borrowed.)
Also, I got a nod for funniest sentence of the week at [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout, and I wrote some more of my steampunk thing during the layover yesterday. Fun times!
If anyone reading this thing cares to attempt a meetup-thing, comment and let me know; there's only one car to be had, so it'll take some finagling (and Friday might be the best chance, given that), but we shall see.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (my name is Steven)
So I woke up this morning to a call from Half-Price Books asking if I could come in for an interview. Did that this afternoon; I think it went well. I'll hear back sometime next week. (Also, it turns out I overdressed, but I'd rather do that and make a good impression than... not.)
And then I discussed a forthcoming mental health week with the parents. Mom was slightly dubious in light of that lack-of-income thing, but is cool with it as long as I can still pay stuff (and move toward some sort of gainful employment, if the interview doesn't pan out); Dad had a minor freak-out about the weather and then went 'hey, think we can throw a party while she's gone?'; most importantly, all of us were civil.
No progress as yet on figuring out what happened with the corrupted story file; I just picked up where I left off in another file. (And I'm STILL USING THAT WORD COUNT.)
I'm gonna call it a good day. ::levels up in Responsible Adulthood::
(Note to self: Get more Teaberry gum before Monday, since Mom finished it and you'd need more than one piece anyway.)
ADDENDUM: Fifteen-Minute Festival! Go forth! Spread joy!
