not a perfect metaphor

So. I'm not at a basketball game (Miami-UC tonight), nor am I at a concert (Barenaked Ladies et al at the Taft). But that's okay.
My yuletide fic is back from beta and approved, that was some of the fastest app turnaround I've seen in ages, and I got some other good news today - full squee will be divulged later, on that front. So I'm calling it a good day.
(Subject line is from a thing on the radio this evening: Christmas carols to the tune of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Between the overdose of Christmas carols at work and the fact that the song works best in small, infrequent doses... I approve.)

In brighter news: THINKGEEK CATALOG IN THE MAIL. Also, I am on to my Yule assignment and it is fun.

*In today's free physics lesson: Turns out two cars still can't occupy the same space at the same time. I'm okay; my involvement went as far as making sure it got called in and taking the long way home.
*Basketball season is alive and well! Dad and I went to Miami's exhibition game on Sunday. In conclusion, THIS IS GOING TO BE A GOOD SEASON.
*Drowned my headphones last week; the pull-down handle in front of the sink caught them. My replacement pair is v. kickass.
*GIP.

So Dad and I watched White Collar last night.
In conclusion, that's some epic win they got there, so far. (LIKE DIANA. "SHE'D RATHER BE WEARING THE HAT." HOW AWESOME IS THAT.)
Of course, I enjoy this kind of thing reasonably well, if my love for Sneakers is any indication, but. Always good to know there's fun stuff to be had out there.

- We got absolutely slammed in the last hour today, probably because people decided they needed stuff after the football game.
+ Speaking of, what is this nonsense where the Bengals are actually good this year? I don't know what to do with this!
- So I pulled into the driveway and went to put my windows up... and they went up v. slowly, and the stereo cut out. And then my poor car wouldn't start again. Fortunately, I'm off tomorrow and Monday, and Dad's off tomorrow, so hopefully we'll be able to get to the bottom of this.

I have several memorable concerts, as my parents have been taking me to them since I was five. But the winner has to be a Barenaked Ladies concert in 1996.
Thirteen years ago Friday, to be exact, on my tenth birthday. I heard they were going to be in Oxford less than a week beforehand - when we went to see them in Cincinnati, so I was sure there was no way we'd go to the Oxford show.
But then jenerator got tickets (THIRD ROW, NO LESS) and we went to dinner in Oxford, under the pretext of her wanting to see me for the day, and Dad got my then-brand-new concert shirt out of the car and went 'here, you might need this.' I was convinced they'd gotten me a second one until they got out the tickets. XD
This was right after they started telling people not to throw Kraft Dinner at the stage (apparently high-velocity macaroni and cheese hurts, and at the concert just before this, I got covered in cheese sauce powder); I still have some of the funny money they passed around at the concert. Good for admission into the treefort, yo.
So: Not only my most memorable concert, but the best birthday present ever.

A couple of squee-worthy things, one of which is a PSA:
*So I had a volunteer to move lower_tadfield into the Era of Tags. This is pretty damn awesome - though a lot of the earliest stuff is full of dead links, now. SO: If anyone reading this has moved website-house for their fic or pictures (and a few of you have posts in the tag, which is why I mention), hop on over to the 'dead links' tag and fix the links, if you could? The tags only go up to about May 2005, at the moment, but that's where the bum links are most likely to be.
*And now for something completely different: roads_untaken. Panfandom AU-versions-of-characters goodness. Go forth and join; it's fun!
(On a related note: WHY DID IT TAKE ME SIX YEARS TO COME UP WITH not_elvish. WHY. ALSO, HOLY CRAP IT'S BEEN SIX YEARS. XD)

Things What Are Awesome:
*My impending paycheck. There were some rough moments last week, but it's worth it for More Money, you know?
*Checking my email this morning to find a request to translate one of my fics into Russian(!). First time that's happened in some years, if memory serves. I can't make heads nor tails of the Cyrillic, except for where I know there's a name, but still.
*Coraline the click. Though I'm not sure what to make of Wybie. Either way, it was appropriately cute and appropriately creepy. (I kinda heart Coraline's dad, though. He tries!)
*To Say Nothing of the Dog, which I've been reading at work and brought home tonight due to having like five pages left. IN CONCLUSION LOLZ.

*Heeeey, Sorting Hat meme! That's pretty awesome.
*I have like six Dreamwidth invite codes. Drop me a line, if you're interested in one, and I'll email it on along.
*So Warehouse 13 was pretty interesting, but... I rather hope the Warehouse 23 people know about it, if the resemblance wasn't an honest coincidence. Otherwise, it may not be around too long, from the looks of things.
*I can post my femgenficathon fic this week! That's exciting.
*On a semi-related note, I finally read the Penny backstory comic last night? And I kind of want to smack Joss A LOT MORE, now, OH MY GOD. (It does mildly Joss my fic, but I don't feel like trying to fix it, so.)
