Work was... generally lacking in people, for the most part. Bought a sweatshirt (it's got... an anime version of Mighty Mouse, sorta, on it) and a notebook (Happy Bunny: Cute but psycho. Things even out) before I clocked back in after break. Still don't know how tomorrow's gonna go, but oh well.
Thunder and lightning kept me from updating before now, so I took the time to work on a fic (including typing some, which... may not have been the safest idea, even with the laptopness). Won;t be online too long due to crazy-early hours tomorrow morning, but I'm here till midnight-12:30.
ETA: Even without having seen the animation, sorting receipts at close turned into badger/mushroom/snake. Badgers are charge-card usage, mushrooms are charge payments, snakes are returns.

ignore the events behind the cut, if you'd like. I'd certainly love to. )
And now, some good stuff: The... I think she's the district manager? She supervises my managers, anyway... tried to dial a phone number from memory. It didn't work; she got a Fashion Bug in [livejournal.com profile] fujinsama's territory. (Morgan, if you haven't tried applying there yet, I'd suggest it. I know you've had bad experiences with retail, but from the sound of it, you're having worse with McDonald's. And if all else fails, they may need some help with inventory Sunday.)
I though there was something else, but apparently not. Off to check Milliways. That ought balance things out (unless there's an angst!Threadzilla in there, in which case I'm not reading). And I've nice, relaxing music....

Work tonight wasn't too bad. Got all the stuff that showed up yesterday out and on hangers, at least. (My question: Why more stock 6 days before inventory? Do they WANT us to die?)
Some theorization, and a quest for numbers: According to Arlo Guthrie, you need 3 people for an organization and 50 people a day to have a movement. [livejournal.com profile] schiarire suggested 100 people for a cult. What I want to know is, how many people constitute a fanbase?
Ack yearbook pages HELP! Also, seems to be Attack of the Plot Bunnies time.

Getting closer to having a dishwasher and sink. ::CHEERS!::
Minor amount of Driving Adventures today - can't say as I drove anywhere in particular, as Dad did the driving out to my uncle's place and back. We had some kiddie!books that Jen 2 brought back to us and we passed 'em along to my cousin's kids. Plenty of use coming out of those things.
Rides to work are straightened out. Found out where the Kairos thing is (same place as last time, apparently), and if all else fails Dad can probably give me a ride there.

So. Apparently that was the largest annual antique car show in the world. Loads of Mustangs, some Studebakers, old Fords with a circle of glass in front of the steering wheel for the windshield, a Rolls with British-side steering an' EVERYTHING, a Crosley (think old VW Bug, except this was made in 1949), some Viking longcars, even a bulldozer! The sunburn is very well worth it, and will be a tan in a few days anyway.
Anyway: rock and roll trivia! )
ETA, three unrelated notes: Am trying to convince Ji to take a second character up at [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar. [livejournal.com profile] sotto_voce likes the mix CD (yay!). And after silliness at work, I might have to add 'hats for stuffed animals' to my interests list.
minkhollow: (holy wood magic)
(Subject-line Name That Tune: If anyone can, please do. After catching that line I think I'll have to find the song.)
Eight-hour day at work (more or less). My brain is only mildly fried, I think, and at any rate, after going to Lowes yesterday I'm VERY glad I don't have to do their inventory.
Antique car parade tomorrow! And we're actually in town for it for a change!
minkhollow: (song of the viking)
Still haven't heard back from the future roommate, so I emailed her again (from my other address, since the one she was given is the stupid one these days).
Everything's out of the kitchen; there will be countertop tomorrow. Hopefully also a dishwasher. I for one am sick of washing dishes in the bathroom sink.
I'm currently scheduled to work the same night as a Kairos thing; going to see if I can't work earlier.
Jen 2: I've a stack of books in my room that Jayge might like.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (ialvatj)
So. Parents are back, and brought me stuff (Drama Queen towel!, frog lamp for the dorm,* little tiny jewelry box, book about writing). Between that and going to Oxford with Jen 2 this afternoon, I've got plenty of things. (Wildberry gatherings: Two buttons and a poster [Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!].) Dorm decoration's gonna be crazy, methinks, what with my posters and (possibly) my feather boa, and who KNOWS what the roommate's gonna bring.
Work today: Lack of self-injury. That is always a plus.

*This is because there's NO WAY I'm taking my orange lamp up there. It'd prolly break, and I love that thing too much.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (rpage: brains. yes they're edible.)
Interesting day today. Jen 2 has apparently been plotting Driving Adventures (with help from my parents and... I think Jen 1 got in on it?); today was Half Price Books. I have Coraline, a Crash Test Dummies CD, and a biography of Keith Moon (600 pages! He wasn't alive THAT long, was he?).
I think tomorrow is more Tri-County-ish fun, and possibly Oxford.
Note to self: No more bending over at work. You hit your head too much, and that's terrible on the customer service. (When I was pulling racks in, I at least managed to SAY 'excuse me,' but I was THINKING 'get out of my way before I run you over.')
What we should do with the empty hangers: Put 'em on that empty rounder out front. Yeah, we're selling the Emperor's new clothes now. Up to 50% off lowest marked price!
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (fedora!orlando)
OK - work today was INSANE. Didn't eat till 8:30. But there's milk now, and I got my paycheck! Verily, 'tis a milestone.
Planning to catch the midnight showing of I Love '98. If they don't talk about Buffy, I'm betting there'll be a Strikes Back edition. Between that and some of the other bits they've left out... I mean, really. (Thoughts on earlier shows: Keanu Reeves does not such a good FBI agent make. And "Enter Sandman" is clearly about Pratchett's Sandman.)
and now, aforementioned Massive Music Meme )
minkhollow: (vetinari for america)
Ack sidewalk sale HELP. Was on the verge of telling people 'no, actually, now that you've tried it on you have to buy it.' Several times. You would have been too, if you had to put all those clothes away. But! I get to take my CDs Friday for the outside end of things! They'll never get me to go inside, even if it's a million degrees again.
And this is where I give away #16 on that music meme I did earlier: 'Tis Monster (Steppenwolf). I wouldn't, but given all that election-delay fuss? The song's becoming eerily accurate again, and inna big hurry. (Was written in the late '60s, I believe.) So I felt I had to.
(ETA: Try the link now. If this one doesn't work I might do a gratuitous lyric post instead, and the song's in the iTunes store.)
minkhollow: (vetinari for america)
(Incidentally, if anyone knows the info for that song, I'd appreciate your sharing - all I know is it's good work!muzak.)
Sleeping in tomorrow is gonna be SO nice. But on the upside for today, I bought some nice pants at work. Original price: 25 bucks. I paid six. They go well with my BNL shirt.
Mmm pizza. Not just any pizza - the bacon variety. I do so love that topping combo.
Note to self: Call Jen 3 again.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (nap time)
Thousand and one distractions, today. Cleaned up the Bra Pile That Ate Manhattan* at work today, among lots of other things. Also Milliways is eating my BRAAAAIN. It's the Threadzillae, i swear it is.
Jen 2's camera with my pictures is being... uncooperative. I've got her pictures, but not mine, and I think I've got more Bentleys. So, that particular picspam will wait a bit. I'll go through those, but mostly the pictures are waiting till I've got mine.

*Or possibly Queens, depending on how much havoc the Threadzillae've wrought on Manhattan...
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (another postcard)
As of last night, I can run the register at work. And today I got somebody to sign up for a charge card! But I think they need to play more than two tapes a day, you know?
Brainwave: Might have funds on hand to get BNL tickets. That would rock so. Much.
Tried to call Jen 3; got her voicemail again. Jen 2 suggested going up to Columbus for the Chihuly exhibit, partly because I haven't seen it and partly to get me driving some more, so I'm gonna see if Jen 3 would be interested.
Also... ::pokes Ji and Julie:: If there's not loggage (or possibly fic), I'ma go POSTAL on you two. And I've learned from a professional.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (the truth shall make ye...)
Okay, so I called work to tell 'em I'd be a bit late and then got the grandmother to come over. Jen 2 got there at the same time and gave me the ride after all - she'd got stuck in traffic. Adventure for the day is now over.
Still not running the register, but there'll be other days. It's entirely possible to walk (very fast) to Burger King, get a burger, walk back to the store, and eat it in 15 minutes. Oh, and somebody cut a theft-detection tag off something. That was interesting.
Refilled Jen 2's gas tank after work and talked about lots of stuff.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (this is a test. (a what?))
Parents are gone, as of this morning. (Jen 2 - friendly reminder. I need to be at work by 4. Figured since your phone's still down, far as I know, this is the safer route.) Not sure why they had to wake me up and keep me there at that hour, though. I mean, I went back to sleep, but still.
Jen 3 finally called back - apparently her sister had her phone for a while there. XD I'm calling her back Fridayish to sort things out. She's not only got a class to take, but volleyball practices, and the latter's basically at the whim of the captains. (See, that's why I don't mess with sports.)
Havenae tried restarting the main 'puter so far. That might be an after-work thing.
ETA: The grandmother's giving me a ride to work. Off at 9ish.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (heavenly chaos fandom (by Celestina))
Okay, so wearing new shoes to five hours of on-my-feet work was a bad idea. I think I held up all right, though. One table of chaos instead of two (there was just no way to get the other done), and two color-organized rounders.
Public Service Announcement: When you try clothes on and decide you don't want them after all? Hang them up right side out. I mean, would you have even given that shirt a second glance if it was inside-out when you walked by? I didn't think so.
Next week: Tuesday and Thursday 4-9ish, Friday 9:30-4. (Jen 2, I'll probably call you with that.)
ETA: Former classmate called home while I was at work asking where I got the 42 thing from. The Brit humour spreads once again!
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (i mean really.)
Gainful Employment, day two: Have had enough of theft-detection tags to last me the rest of the year. Stupid stock backlog. If we got half that stuff ready to go, we were extremely lucky. It just wouldn't! stop! COMING!
Work again Friday, same time. And I'll actually be able to clock in (wow).
Internet was being very stupid this afternoon before I left, and tonight after I got back, to the point where there was stressing over finding the tech-support number (which I wound up not having to call). But I'm going to pretend that didn't happen, yeah?
Also: [livejournal.com profile] milliways_bar can expect Pestilence once I get a chance to log out of this account.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (fedora!orlando)
Gainful Employment: not too bad. Prolly will be better once I'm using the cash register on occasion and not just ferrying clothes back and forth. (Never mind the bit where they're having the store remodeled Thursday, so figuring out where things are now won't help me much.)
Still not sure whether 'you have to be at work at four' is a good thing to hear, but it certainly tops 'well, I hope you get this job, or else you'll have to apply at Taco Bell.' (That was Mom's contribution.)
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (preciousss!)
The Yousendit meme raids such portions of my family's record/tape collection as are most easily accessible. (No, really - we're talking prolly 300 racords here, and that's just 33-RPM. And lots of tapes.)
stuff you may not find anywhere else - available for one week. )
Also: Am working tomorrow, 4 to 9.* This Gainful Employment stuff catches on quick.

*Time zone translations: 1 to 6, Ji's time, and 6 to 11 AM Australian. Now you know when I'll be gone. XD
