1) If you were to magically become Super Fluent in any language that has ever existed ever, which language would that be? Why?
...Too many choices!
::dithers::
I don’t know for sure, but probably some really really obscure thing wot hardly anyone (if that) knows anymore. just because I’m strange like that.

2) Turtle or tortoise?
I think turtle. I mean, they’ve both got their Discworld moments but turtles have more. (And the ones in Finding Nemo were cool, too.)

3) Three-is it a magic number? If not, what is your favorite number? Any particular reason, or just one of those Because It Is things?
I don’t think magic as such. I sort of adopted 12 as my lucky number at one point - don’t recall the reason, and don’t really think of it in that respect these days. 42 is probably my *favorite* favorite number due to the whole Answer thing, i is fun times (‘cause, dude. It’s IMAGINARY.), and five is a good number for comments, for some reason. Don’t know why I think that.

4) Describe one poster you have in your room. (Unless you don’t have any in which case I will write you a new question.)
Actually I was just considering changing most of my posters, since they’re nearly all old Miami basketball things. But the one that’s not going anywhere (is framed, even) is my BNL poster. It’s blue and the band’s all just sort of standing there, and only one of them’s looking at the camera.

5) Name one children’s author whom you would dearly love to either preserve for all time, possibly as a zombie (special fish and some sort of veg, I believe) or revive from the dead, also possibly as a zombie.
...Okay, that has to be the weirdest question ever. XD
I’ll have to go with Louis Sachar, seeing as the Wayside School books are sheer brilliance.

Morgan, I saw your request for some - am trying to think some up. No, really. I've got one so far. (ETA: They're done, and posted where you asked for them.) Anyone else who wants questions, just say so - I'll do what I can. (Might take a while, though.)

1) Obscure and dead is good! Quoth she who is about to sign her summer away to Ancient Greek.
So like...Aramaic or something? I only mention Aramaic because if you spoke it then possibly you would be Jesus.
3) Of course, forty-two! I should have known. Heh. i is nice. Except for working in fours. (i negative one negative i one! <-good chant) Because four is teh Evil Number of Deeeath.
5) I'm very proud of that question and its reception as the weirdest question ever. And Wayside School is brilliant. Although that one book what was all math made my head hurt.

1) EEEBasque. Though you'd be able to find people who spoke it at least. And it appears on street signs. Etc.
3) Four is evil in my head? Also China, Korea, and Japan.

1) I do...I've heard it's full of Xs by the way. If that matters at all.
3) No, I don't think so. I only listed those because those are the only countries I know for sure where four=death.

Four is equated with death for pronunciatory (er, I like to make up words) reasons in Japanese (shi and shi-the original Chinese character for death) and...I assume similar reasoning in China and Korea. (Having asked friends about the former and family about the latter.)
But I probably haven't explained right. Er. [livejournal.com profile] tammaiya probably knows better. *flee*

Yes, it's the same in Mandarin (dunno about other Chinese languages). "Shi" is four and "shi" is death. But the "shi" is pronounced differently from Japanese "shi."

(Probably Japan borrowed the pronounciations (adapted somewhat) along with the characters.)

Come to think of it, everyone I asked about its being the same in Chinese also only spoke Mandarin. Bears looking into...

(And yes, probably. The Borrowers! ...er.)

According to my beloved online dictionary, both four and death are 'sei' in Cantonese. There's another one. :)

I'm not really sure about Mandarin's origins, though. Is it a constructed language? 'Cos I think I remember something about it being a conglomeration of different Chinese languages to make a standard language. Or something. Which would change everything.

Hee! Er, let's see. First of all, Basque is cool because Stephen Maturin speaks it. As for four...
'Shi' in Japanese is the pronunciation for the kanji death, and is also one of two pronunciations for the number four (shi and yon). It is therefore an unlucky number. They skip the fourth floor and the fourth door in every hospital for that reason. Also, just completely randomly, white is the colour of death and mourning, not black.
Does that help anyone?

He speaks Basque too? When were they in a Basque-speaking region? How did I miss this? I knew about Catalan...

I THOUGHT so. I don't know, perhaps I'm confused. But Basque is still cool anyway. *g*

Apparently this applies to China, too. The skipping the fourth floor and white being the color of death/mourning, that is. (We learnt about it in Mandarin class.) Cultural plagiarism!

Hee, yes! Although I think the Japanese people originally came from China. A really, REALLY long time ago, that is.
