minkhollow: (look at my wrist!)
So I've had Dr. Horrible in my car pretty much nonstop since February - except today after work, I decided I needed to get back to my roots, and swapped it out for BNL. This is a Good Decision, I feel.
My [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb is over 13,000 words, and I have at least three more scenes in mind, one of which is likely to break a thousand words by itself. The minimum word count's not going to be an issue, methinks. XD
And finally: Mom Rickrolled people on their way out of school on Friday. Sometimes my family is pretty awesome. (A coworker who goes there said he thinks it might be the greatest Rickroll in history; I think it's second to the Macy's Parade one Cartoon Network did, but that's still not bad.)
minkhollow: Dr. Horrible, caught off guard (ahhhhhhhhh!)
Yesterday was... epic, on several fronts. I may post more thoroughly on that later.
For now: I would like to note that it's damned hard to avoid gender pronouns with your point-of-view character - but it does make for a fun challenge.
(Not quite 8000 words total, and I'm about to do the first scene with Captain Hammer in. FUNTIMES.)
ETA: And now, it's just over 9000 words. I made it through 2600 of those before resorting to a gender pronoun again.
minkhollow: (burn down that bridge)
*So, Dreamwidth; if you know where I am here, you know where I am there.
*Four days and a bit into [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb work, and I've got over 6000 words. This is SO MUCH FUN. (Incidentally, they're still looking for artists over there.)
*Today was... epic. My supervisor is either very astute or has the best timing ever, though, so work wasn't as stressful as it might have been. Life, the Universe, and Everything, however... I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.
*Alphabet meme and this thing are still open, though I may not get to them until after I have a rough draft of the big story down.
minkhollow: Dr. Horrible, caught off guard (ahhhhhhhhh!)
thegreatmigrationfriendingmeme?

So yeah, there's that thing.
In other news, this is three days' worth of work on my Genderbend Big Bang story:

I think it's safe to say the thing wanted to get the hell out of my head, all things considered.
minkhollow: (what a crazy random happenstance!)
*Fic research, the Ask Your Flist edition: So this will come in handy when I get to [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb stuff, and I want to ask while I'm thinking of it. What are some routine things men do that women don't have to think about, and vice versa? (Pretty much the only thing you can assume is on the list already is the menstrual cycle.)
*So on Friday, I broke 100,000 words on the year. That's... pretty awesome, I think.
*Work remains work-like.
minkhollow: (what a crazy random happenstance!)
(Subject line has little to do with anything, other than this.)
*Alphabet meme: only 10 letters left!
*Work is work-like, so far. I look forward to having money again.
*Parents and I made an excursion to Canton, to see pretty kimono on display. (Very pretty.) I think there's some kind of time tunnel on 71 between Columbus and Cleveland; that seems to take forever.
minkhollow: (it's all about the information)
*I have shoes I can wear to work now, and... more than one pair of black dress pants to my name. The latter is esp. good, as the one pair I already have is from high school.
*I have a floor in my room! It's amazing! Some of the surfaces still need dusting, but that's okay; it's a work in progress.
*I have Andrew Bird's new album, finally. Haven't listened to all of it yet, but WIN.
*I have... backstory for a character who's only going to play a bit part in the Big Epic Genderswap Fic. Might write it up as a separate story in the meanwhile, and because I don't know how much of it will factor into the fic itself.
*Dreamwidth: Yes/no/maybe/if you're this undecided you should wait for public beta? I wouldn't be likely to move shop from LJ, as that's never worked out very well for me in the past.
*Alphabet meme is still open for business.
minkhollow: (i'll melt the damn snow)
So, today is a day of awesome:
*Vermont! GO VERMONT! (And DC!)
*I got the third of my Sweet Charity bids back yesterday, with the instructions 'Iron Man gen, please.' Less than 24 hours and one adapted [livejournal.com profile] outsideinn plotline later, I have a finished fic.
*Doc! This is something I've been looking forward to since I made the relevant app, so I'm glad he resurfaced.
*OH AND I HAVE A JOB! I poked at Staples yesterday, to follow up on last week's interview, and the manager wondered aloud why they hadn't called me back yet; that happened... about 15 minutes ago. So as of Friday I WILL BE GETTING PAID TO DO SOMETHING. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ELEVEN MONTHS.
That is pretty damn awesome, I feel.
*Alphabet meme: All tagged up and 11 letters to go.

Re: icon, apparently it's my turn to make WTF faces at the weather. ::makes WTF faces at the weather, it is APRIL, we were doing YARDWORK on Sunday...::
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (incendiary wit part 2)
*Alphabet meme is all tagged up, and still has 12 letters open. Go claim some!
*Seems to be a time for taking on writing challenges. I claimed a [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon prompt (there are still five left, if this might catch anyone's interest), I have one of my three Sweet Charity bids back, and... I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb. But I figure if I can't turn the outline I banged out this afternoon into 15,000 words, I'm doing something wrong. XD That's a lot of writing before July, though Femgen is the least solid deadline since its posting period runs till October.
*Still awaiting word on gainful employment. Took care of my state taxes yesterday, though, so: progress!
minkhollow: (all designed to blow our minds)
*Crystal, Dad wants to talk to you; give him a call, if you have time?
*Alphabet meme is still open!
*Two interviews in one sitting, Tuesday. I'm waiting for them to go through the rest of the interview pool, but I was the best of the best so far (and... also the first) as of the other day. XD Here's hoping.
*I know what I want in a Dr. Horrible ringtone, now: the first chorus of So They Say. Bouncy, ear-catching, and with a lovely twist at the end if it's allowed to finish. XD
*Icon meme, via [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane:
in which I talk about my icons )
minkhollow: (what a crazy random happenstance!)
*Alphabet meme still has 12 letters open. Go claim some, if you're so inclined.
*HEY GUYS, CHECK THIS OUT. Not bad at all for my first showing in anything like that, methinks.
*Note to self: State taxes! Also poke about for follow-up, if they don't call you tomorrow.
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
So I decided I wanted to do a [livejournal.com profile] horrible_awards rec set before voting closes tomorrow, and decided the journal needed an appropriate icon.
This turned into a minor odyssey; I nearly forgot the password, discovered the journal was still validated under two email addresses ago, nearly forgot my Photobucket password in the attempt to get said icon, rediscovered and deleted a second Photobucket account in trying to get that password, and ended up resetting my MHC email password in an attempt to straighten out the Photobucket mess.
But I think the final score is in my favor, since nothing looks hacked and I changed all the necessary passwords.
So anyway: Rec set! Go have a look, after all that trouble! XD
minkhollow: Sputnik: In Soviet Russia, space races YOU! (space races you!)
Weather Systems is patched up and sent in; here's hoping.
I think I figured out why TextEdit was munching things, too. Both times, I was working on the story that got eaten in one file, and saving up the day's word count in another. So either I need to use a different word processor (which has worked so far), or work all on one story before I attempt the day's word count.
Have tossed a few prompts in the pot at [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest... and gave myself a plot bunny on the first try. XD But that's all right; it should be fun to work on.
minkhollow: Dr. Horrible, caught off guard (spooked)
So. There's the 'when you smell our detergent, time stops' commercial.
And then there's the allergy meds using 'love the air' as a tagline, and the beer spot with Bad Horse's cousin the Clydesdale of Sin fetching a tree branch.
But what really has me thinking Dr. Horrible's making the ad-designer rounds is the 'girl-approved hair' Bond spoof. Since the villain's soooort of Dr. Horrible with worse hair. (And inferior goggles.)
That's all I've got.
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
::has a glass of the best tap water in the country:: (Second in the world to someplace in British Columbia, no less. That's pretty awesome.)
Also, I did a [livejournal.com profile] yuletide thing: Dr. Horrible's Guide to Resurrecting Your Not-Exactly-Girlfriend. Does what it says on the tin, pretty much.
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
*Twitter: Yes/no/maybe? Why or why not?
*Self, yesterday's exercises in Google confirmed that it's not worth trying to find a Dr. Horrible ringtone, unless you can confirm a free one that's compatible to your phone (or the Phone Store adds some, one supposes). Pls to stop pining.
*If I thought I could do Blazing Saddles any justice at all, I'd write the story where Hedley Lamarr is a charter member of the Evil League of Evil.
*Applied for a bank-teller thing earlier. Also need to figure out where the hell my steampunk-writing brain got to and get back to rebuilding that story.
This concludes another edition of Scatterbrained Me.
minkhollow: (it's all about the information)
So. Have a temp agency application in, finally. To get an unemployment deferment, I need to be registered with an employment agency, which is apparently different in the eyes of the United States government. (I suppose they don't do that sort of thing.) I sent the stuff in for that residency I linked to yesterday, so... there's that, too.
Dad and I went to a basketball game Saturday. They did a 'hey, it's been 10 years since the Sweet 16 team! And also we're inducting Wally Szczerbiak into the Athletic Hall of Fame while we've got him here!' thing. It was a little surreal seeing all those guys there and... not playing. XD
Finished the crossover the other night, so that's good times. (Incidentally, [livejournal.com profile] horrible_awards is open for voting! For those of you so inclined.)

Also, meme time, since I like this one: Ask me writing questions! (This includes asking for commentaries on things, if you're interested.)
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (his name pirate guy!)
Meme time! From Lexie:
Association Meme: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.
I don't know how long-winded this will get, so. )
In other news, Dr. Horrible is excellent driving music, if you don't mind hearing the same thing several times due to its shortness. Which I don't, as it is fun times!
minkhollow: Sputnik: In Soviet Russia, space races YOU! (space races you!)
So. There's this thing I want to apply for; short notice, but the hardest part would be rustling up the writing samples, and that's actually not so hard (piece of Nano, "Subterranean Blues," and... trying to finish "Weather Systems" since I want to submit it for publication anyway). What I can't figure out is whether, with the references thing, they want actual recommendation letters or just contact info. Thoughts?
Crossover continues swimmingly; presently pondering what to do for the next bit. Perhaps poking at something else for a bit will help, with that.
To do today: stuff toward aforementioned application, pay bill, fill out transcript request, book exchange thing; to do tomorrow: sub license, temp agency, step toward deferment application.
minkhollow: (what a crazy random happenstance!)
Oh, and the thing I forgot to mention in yesterday's post.
So I saw a Gain commercial a few months back, running on the premise of 'when you first smell our detergent, time stops.' I saw it again yesterday.
For the first time since watching Dr. Horrible.
When I first saw it, said sing-along blog was very much around; I'm wondering if the commercial people might've drawn their inspiration from that. Whether they did or not, I'm never going to see it the same way again. XD
