So when last we left, I was saying I wanted to see Night at the Museum soon. Ended up seeing Star Trek before that, and ye olde museum click only today.
Star Trek was quite enjoyable. Needs More Scotty, though, and... I kind of want someone to write Tony Stark and Scotty being engineering geeks at each other. XD
As for Night at the Museum... in conclusion, WIN. (With a side of WTF IS THIS SHIT, at the beginning, but then, it's very 'then I get everything I ever--'.)
So, that's life at the moment. (Other than the fact that work is awesome and got Graeter's for everyone last week. FREE ICE CREAM. FREE AMAZING ICE CREAM.)
Also, with the genderswap fic out of the way, I moved on to femgenficathon, which is also a Dr. Horrible fic this year. (The prompt I got... sort of demanded Penny backstory, and I've wanted to write something along those lines that isn't her dating history anyway.) Finished that yesterday, so... now I have nothing to stop me figuring out my remaining Sweet Charity fics but writer's block. XD
minkhollow: Help!: The Exciting Adventure of Paul on the Floor (paul on the floor)
So. Night at the Museum.
Basically, that was AWESOME. The beginning was a little WTF mate, but I can see where it came from, out the other side. (And it just possibly explains why [livejournal.com profile] snap_time has been quiet lately.)
In conclusion, good laughs, awesome history-poking-at, and OSCAR THE GROUCH (if not for very long). Also, Amy Adams is rather impressive.

Random notes:
*Saw Star Trek yesterday. Simon Pegg was my favorite bit, other than the shuttle that might have my name on it and the fact that the Enterprise bridge had a couple of scanners like we have at work on it. (So... we have space-age tech? XD)
*I should have known that if I can keep up with "One Week," then "Brand New Day" and the middle bit of "Slipping" wouldn't present any problems, once I knew the words.
*Still want to see Night at the Museum at some point.
*Milliways plottishness looms, starting tomorrow. IT WILL BE FUN.
minkhollow: Dr. Horrible, caught off guard (ahhhhhhhhh!)
Okay, so. Anyone else seen the Night at the Museum trailer with OSCAR THE GROUCH?!
I might have to go see that after work on Friday. I have to see it anyway, the trailers look way too kickass for me to pass on it (and I heart the first one), but - yes. Waiting may not be feasible.
minkhollow: Robert Redford pointing, from Sneakers (sometimes i don't understand myself)
(Well, actually, they don't, and I do care. But that's another story.)
Mom Rickrolled people at school on Friday. Sometimes my family is awesome.
Got myself a copy of Mental Floss over the weekend, when I picked up birthday/Mother's Day presents for Mom. I miss that magazine; now that I have a little disposable income, I might renew my subscription. Still thinking that over.
I'm thinking of importing my fic LJ into a closed-membership community here; that might be the easiest way to do it. If I do, I'll probably call it wornoutmetaphor.
I've abandoned Dr. Horrible as my in-car music in favor of Disc One. I needed to get back to my roots; so far, I heartily approve of this decision. (Making Dr. Horrible work as in-car music involves putting things on repeat several times. XD)
An update on the epic genderswap fic:

Thus making it the longest single-fandom piece I've ever done. And the longest fanfic, as it just barely clears the Harry Potter/Sneakers crossover. Now, I wait for the betas.
minkhollow: (look at my wrist!)
So I've had Dr. Horrible in my car pretty much nonstop since February - except today after work, I decided I needed to get back to my roots, and swapped it out for BNL. This is a Good Decision, I feel.
My [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb is over 13,000 words, and I have at least three more scenes in mind, one of which is likely to break a thousand words by itself. The minimum word count's not going to be an issue, methinks. XD
And finally: Mom Rickrolled people on their way out of school on Friday. Sometimes my family is pretty awesome. (A coworker who goes there said he thinks it might be the greatest Rickroll in history; I think it's second to the Macy's Parade one Cartoon Network did, but that's still not bad.)
minkhollow: (burn down that bridge)
*So, Dreamwidth; if you know where I am here, you know where I am there.
*Four days and a bit into [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb work, and I've got over 6000 words. This is SO MUCH FUN. (Incidentally, they're still looking for artists over there.)
*Today was... epic. My supervisor is either very astute or has the best timing ever, though, so work wasn't as stressful as it might have been. Life, the Universe, and Everything, however... I never could get the hang of Tuesdays.
*Alphabet meme and this thing are still open, though I may not get to them until after I have a rough draft of the big story down.
minkhollow: Dr. Horrible, caught off guard (ahhhhhhhhh!)
thegreatmigrationfriendingmeme?

So yeah, there's that thing.
In other news, this is three days' worth of work on my Genderbend Big Bang story:

I think it's safe to say the thing wanted to get the hell out of my head, all things considered.
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
*Alphabet meme and this thing still have seven open spots each.
*I think I'm going to rename my fic journal once I have a little spare income (the various gift certificates I haven't spent yet will help on that front); I just need to figure out what before I get the token. Work, on a semi-related note, is going well enough. Having money again will be nice.
*So the trailer for Night at the Museum 2? HOLY GOD THAT LOOKS AWESOME. I hope it lives up to spec.
*[livejournal.com profile] quinby and I decided to give ye olde original fantasy 'verse a full run-through during phone time, to figure out what's in each prospective book and how to frame them. So far, it's pretty awesome.
*First minor sunburn of the year achieved on Sunday. It's already faded; didn't even itch. (It was just a couple stripes on my arms, achieved through having a 'hands-free sunscreen!' thing. Other than the spots I missed, it worked well.)
*I don't usually do political-ish links, but I've been following this case since last summer, and... really, the verdict was ridiculous, as shown by the public outcry surrounding it. There are some news links about it at the bottom of the page; I may come back later and try to write up an explanation.
minkhollow: (what a crazy random happenstance!)
*Fic research, the Ask Your Flist edition: So this will come in handy when I get to [livejournal.com profile] genderbendbb stuff, and I want to ask while I'm thinking of it. What are some routine things men do that women don't have to think about, and vice versa? (Pretty much the only thing you can assume is on the list already is the menstrual cycle.)
*So on Friday, I broke 100,000 words on the year. That's... pretty awesome, I think.
*Work remains work-like.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (his name pirate guy!)
[Error: unknown template qotd]
Mom said she considered Ariel, but given Disney's The Little Mermaid adaptation, I... think I'm glad she didn't go that route. I got enough crap in grade school regarding certain three-hour tours, so that really wouldn't have helped.
And she's said that if I'd been a boy, I likely would have been Aaron Fletcher. But I wasn't, despite her certainty before I was actually born. XD

Alphabet meme still has openings.
Job stuff tomorrow! I need a tag for that.
minkhollow: (i'll melt the damn snow)
So, today is a day of awesome:
*Vermont! GO VERMONT! (And DC!)
*I got the third of my Sweet Charity bids back yesterday, with the instructions 'Iron Man gen, please.' Less than 24 hours and one adapted [livejournal.com profile] outsideinn plotline later, I have a finished fic.
*Doc! This is something I've been looking forward to since I made the relevant app, so I'm glad he resurfaced.
*OH AND I HAVE A JOB! I poked at Staples yesterday, to follow up on last week's interview, and the manager wondered aloud why they hadn't called me back yet; that happened... about 15 minutes ago. So as of Friday I WILL BE GETTING PAID TO DO SOMETHING. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ELEVEN MONTHS.
That is pretty damn awesome, I feel.
*Alphabet meme: All tagged up and 11 letters to go.

Re: icon, apparently it's my turn to make WTF faces at the weather. ::makes WTF faces at the weather, it is APRIL, we were doing YARDWORK on Sunday...::
minkhollow: (what a crazy random happenstance!)
*Alphabet meme still has 12 letters open. Go claim some, if you're so inclined.
*HEY GUYS, CHECK THIS OUT. Not bad at all for my first showing in anything like that, methinks.
*Note to self: State taxes! Also poke about for follow-up, if they don't call you tomorrow.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (his name pirate guy!)
FINALLY, AN INTERVIEW. ON MONDAY.
Hopefully there will be MONEY in my future. And less parental nagging! (I mean, really, apparently leaving out every sordid detail means I don't want to work; guys? This is frustrating me too.)
minkhollow: Sputnik: In Soviet Russia, space races YOU! (space races you!)
I think it says something that I've practically memorised the work-history portion of my resume. What it says exactly, other than 'WILL SOMEONE GIVE ME A DAMN JOB ALREADY?!', I'm not exactly sure.
Mom found some photos from the time [livejournal.com profile] sunbruiseddream and I went to the antique car parade (Crystal: Trent's in a couple of these. Do you want them/think any other of his more immediate family might?). Including one of the car with the 'Al Smith for President' and 'Repeal 18th Amendment' things on the back. It's given me a plot bunny; this may require a trip to the library sometime soon.
answer-with-icons meme, stolen from misslucyjane )
Broke 70,000 words on the year last night. At least the writer's block seems to have abated.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (short attention span theatre)
I feel like doing fic commentaries. Tell me on what! Anything on [livejournal.com profile] sto_helit_lace is fair game; one part at a time of the multi-part things would be easiest on everyone's sanity.
Random frustrating thing: Okay, so when I screw up, let me apologise. Don't act like I can magically never have screwed up in the first place. OKAY? OKAY.
Attempting to maintain optimism re: job search, but it is not so easy. (nooooo paid account don't leave me!) Still, I'm trying, and I have a couple more feelers out.
Random squee thing: the writing is going well, though I've had a slight slowdown since knocking off my first [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest fic. That's all right, though; I'll recover.
minkhollow: (it's all about the information)
So. Have a temp agency application in, finally. To get an unemployment deferment, I need to be registered with an employment agency, which is apparently different in the eyes of the United States government. (I suppose they don't do that sort of thing.) I sent the stuff in for that residency I linked to yesterday, so... there's that, too.
Dad and I went to a basketball game Saturday. They did a 'hey, it's been 10 years since the Sweet 16 team! And also we're inducting Wally Szczerbiak into the Athletic Hall of Fame while we've got him here!' thing. It was a little surreal seeing all those guys there and... not playing. XD
Finished the crossover the other night, so that's good times. (Incidentally, [livejournal.com profile] horrible_awards is open for voting! For those of you so inclined.)

Also, meme time, since I like this one: Ask me writing questions! (This includes asking for commentaries on things, if you're interested.)
minkhollow: (look at my wrist!)
Meme, via [livejournal.com profile] allfireburns:
Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
Post them to your journal with these instructions.

she gave me A, and so. )
But mostly, my brain is living on Dr. Horrible, at the moment. I blame the crossover plot bunny (which got nominated for an award, WTF!).
I was the youngest person at the alumnae dinner, incidentally (other than someone's child) - but only by two years, which is less than I'd expected. XD Was fun times, on the whole.
minkhollow: (anthill inside)
I have iTunes back (and a fully-functional Hex!), two restarts later.
Also, it appears the prices on the Discworld audiobooks have dropped by about half since the last time I looked; I could conceivably get two of them with my gift card money! I probably will only get one, so that I can investigate Dr. Horrible and this new Andrew Bird album I've heard about and... other stuff. (Like maybe the soundtrack for the cheesy Soul Music animated adaptation. XD)
So I'm gonna think that one over for a bit.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (yes we can)
...that actually just happened.
I live in this world. (THE ONE WHERE WE GET COMPLETE SENTENCES.)
Here's hoping he can do it. I think he can.
(Also, the President is left-handed. EPIC WIN IS EPIC.)
