minkhollow: Help!: The Exciting Adventure of Paul on the Floor (paul on the floor)
[personal profile] minkhollow

Dear Yule Goat,

First off, thank you for offering to write one of these! Of the four, two have nothing on AO3 at all going into this, and I feel like a fandom of one in a third. (The fourth is my big small fandom. XD) I'm sure whatever it is you whip up will be awesome!

Anyway, I just wanted to give you a few more thoughts on my requests, so:

Warehouse 13
Steve Jinks, Claudia Donovan, Rebecca St. Clair, Jack Secord
Two-pronged request: Claudia and Steve BFF-ing it up and being awesome (use or disregard the S3 finale as you will), or ALL THE REBECCA/JACK (backstory would be awesome; happy-ending AUs are both welcome and encouraged). If you can somehow make both happen in the same story I will be the happiest camper ever to happy. Bonus Points Artifacts: Something of Warren Zevon's for Claud and Steve; slapstick comedy props for Rebecca and Jack; or Soviet space program shenanigans for either.

So if you take a look at the W13 fic I've written, two things will be very clear: Claudia is my favorite ever, and I have 20,000+ words of FEELINGS on the matter of Rebecca and Jack and fixing that particular bit of canon. I ship them hardcore and also just like seeing the Warehouse in an earlier time. If you go for Rebecca and Jack, the fic doesn't have to be a romance by any stretch of the imagination; I'd love a pre-Glass Girl case just as much. (Please don't pair them with anyone else, though.)
As for Claudia and Steve... oh, the finale. That was the sound of my heart breaking. Claud seemed pretty intent on setting things right, which is why I said take it or leave it; if you take it, though, I'd rather not have a dark fic. (And as a Bonus Points Artifact aside, I mentioned Warren Zevon related to Claud because he was a musician who spent time in a psych ward; I would love to see something that ties into Claudia's love of music and confronts her with her past.)

Bell Book and Candle (1958)
Gillian "Gil" Holroyd, Pyewacket
So I adore the concept of this movie, but it severely bugs me that you can't fall in love and still do magic. PLEASE FIX THAT. Alternately, run with some backstory (when she got Pyewacket, or bitty magical adventures, or something from her college days, or why and how she got an art gallery), or - taking a suggestion from the fandom post - tell me a story from Pyewacket's point of view.

Things I love about this movie: Kim Novak! A main character who shares my name! Magic shenanigans! Pyewacket! Kim Novak! (She bears repeating. XD) Things I don't so much love: The love spell itself, and the in-request-mentioned fact that Gil loses her powers when she actually does fall in love. Where better to fix that than fic? Additionally, if you're so inclined, feel free to queer up the text.

Villains By Necessity - Eve Forward
The thing that I love about VBN is that the world is so rich - and yet, I totally want to know more about it. I'm fascinated by what happened after all those people Mizzamir whitewashed regained their senses. I want to know exactly what it takes to become a bard. I want to know what a normal day in the life of the Assassins' or Thieves' Guild is. I want to know about the immediate aftermath of the first war, or even how things got so bad that Mizzamir gaining the upper hand was actually advisable. Seriously, anything you write will make me squee lots.

I'd rather the story didn't focus on Mizzamir, really, but he definitely shaped this world; I am all about the consequences of his actions. Considering that most of my fic in this fandom is for a character with roughly five paragraphs of canon, one of which is Sam's dream, I would have no objections whatsoever if you decide to pick a bit-part character from the book and run with their story. If you want some suggestions about the more major players, I have some of those: Valerie's life before the Verdant Company fucked it up, what exactly Robin has to do to become a bard, scenes from Sam's training at the Guild, Sam and Kaylana negotiating their relationship post-book, anything at all with Blackmail because I adore him.

Help! (1965)
Ahme
I have recently come to the conclusion that Ahme is the only person in this movie who has her shit together. (Well, okay, George does too.) So I want a story where Ahme is her awesome, competent self. I seriously want to know more about why she does what she does, why she's mixed up with the cult in the first place, what she was planning to do with the ring if they'd gotten it off Ringo before the deadline (she didn't seem so keen on her sister being sacrificed, that's for sure)... really, anything at all.

This slot was originally going to be for another fandom entirely, but then I realised I need the story where Ahme wins ALL THE THINGS in my life. Because she does win all the things and needs to do so some more. If you feel like Bechdel-passing it up, something exploring her relationship with her sister and/or mother would be awesome; something where one or both of them get drawn into some kind of plot-foiling shenanigans would be doubly so. I'm not usually big on RPF; this world's just enough removed from reality that I can handle the Beatles being thrown into the story, if you like, but I'd rather not have the spotlight on them.

Some general likes and dislikes: In most of these, I'm here for the gen; it's character interactions and/or the world at large that intrigue me. In the cases where a romantic plot could factor in, I don't like non-/dubious consent. I don't like detailed violence and I'd really rather you didn't kill any major players on-page. I love me some ladies being awesome. I also love me some crossovers - between any of these (the more I think about it, Rebecca and Jack taking on the Holroyds or the ring from Help! developing Artifact properties would be HILARIOUS), between one of these and another fandom on my AO3 list, between one of these and something else (feel free to poke via mods if you want to be sure I know it). I prefer happier endings to not.

On the matter of -isms: Since two of my requests are movies that were made in the late '50s/early '60s and one includes characters who worked in the same time period, I am cool with period-accurate representations of the -isms they would encounter in those environments. (When it comes to W13, I would imagine Rebecca encounters more of that in the field than in the Warehouse proper, but it would still be there.)

Availability: Everything you need to know for my W13 request can be found in season 3 ("3...2...1" for all matters Rebecca/Jack, and "Trials" and "Queen for a Day" re: Claudia and Steve); I don't know if Hulu's still going to have the early parts of the season still up, but Syfy's website might. Help! and Bell Book and Candle ought to both be available on DVD in region 1. Villains By Necessity is, sadly, out of print, but your local library/secondhand shop may be able to come to your rescue.

In conclusion, thank you so much! I look forward to reading what I'm sure will be an awesome story.
