a sound within your heart will rage
8 Mar 2011 09:02 pmoooooh, meme! That I will probably answer tomorrow, but it still looks fun:
Name a female character I have ever written (EVER EVER EVER, anywheres) and I will attempt a drabble about her. If you give me a keyword, lyric, or picture I will use it if it sparks something for me.

Date: 2011-03-09 02:13 am (UTC)Charity: So I know he'll appear, cause there are rules and there are strictures.
Melissa: She's the salt of the earth and she's dangerous.
Kate: Somewhere just beyond my reach, there's someone reaching back for me.
Abby: Who wants to be ordinary in a crazy, mixed-up world?
Amanda: It's only fear after all.

Date: 2011-03-09 09:04 pm (UTC)Grace spends far too much time in unladylike pursuits; while Charity can easily blame the training and the fact that Grace looks forward to it on Anne, she has a harder time assigning fault for Grace's love of the stables. Nearly everyone else in court brushes it aside as a traditional Vincenian love of horses.
When Thomas makes mention of Grace's fondness for the apprentice stable master, Charity knows who to blame, but not why. Shouldn't a proper young lady be content to wait for the best possible match to come along? A stable hand is hardly a worthy match for a princess, after all; if Grace would only wait a bit, surely a prince would make his intentions known.

There are rules about this sort of thing. Kate knows them well; she learned to read on history and law books.
The tournament is a load of dragon manure, and not least because her father thinks he's a duck more often than not these days. She's made up her own mind, and Thomas knows it, even if no one else does; if he could just mention that in court, the whole affair would be called off.
But her father's not fit for court very often, and Anne's being secretive, which makes it difficult for Kate to tell her. She doesn't see how else she can call off the tournament for her hand; as much as she hates having to be passive, especially when it's her own fate at stake, she might have to wait and hope that someone with her best interests at heart wins and gives her the choice.

Date: 2011-03-11 01:14 am (UTC)It's cold and it's dark and I do not like this kingdom at all. They're so strange here, and yet they all think I'm the strange one. (Well, they also think Arden is the strange one, but Arden seems more used to it.)
Finch is right at home, but that doesn't come as a surprise by now. Finch is from this area, after all; I'd be amazed He hasn't claimed the whole kingdom if they weren't so close in their religious views to Andalucia.
I have to go for now; we've got a lead on where this magical idiot might be hiding. Hopefully, next time you hear from me, either we'll have more information on that or Finch and Arden will have admitted their mutual interest. (I'm sure I sound obsessed by now, but they really need to work on that, and it's better than getting caught up in how much I miss you.)

Anne can't tell who's saving whom, anymore.
She's sure they both got into this with the theory that they were each rescuing the other from their respective family shortcomings. Of course, Anne thinks Regulus's family let him down a lot more than hers did her, but she wouldn't be surprised if he thought she needed saving from her poor American non-magical life.
Only now... now she's in over her head, and he is too, and after what happened at the World Cup and immediately afterward...
She can't stay, that much is obvious. If word gets out that she's pregnant she'll be dead before she can sneeze, and if he's not dead there'll be a good chance someone wants to make him do the deed. It's better if she leaves.
It's tearing her apart, but it's better if she leaves.

“The whole post-bronzing thing. I mean, after the mental time travel, you’ve also done as close to physical time travel as you can pull off. Was it worth it?”
After a few moments, HG nods. “I would say it was, on the whole. But there are still many aspects of society that I wouldn’t have expected to linger for so long as they have. It seems there is still the constant need to prove oneself equal.”
Claudia shrugs. “Outgrew that a while back. If people can’t deal with the fact that I’m good at what I do, they can suck it up and deal.”

"Seven people? In one night?" Sam was giving her that look again - the one somewhere between true friendship and infatuation that almost made Cata wish she could indulge him.
"I don't know why you're so impressed," she said. "You could easily outdo me, if you played it right."
"Not like that, I couldn't - besides, someone would have to let me take a contract first, so I won't have the chance until next year. How did you tell all those poisons apart when you got in there?"
Cata grinned. "Can't tell you all my secrets, Sam."
