and for our next discussion...
29 Mar 2003 06:22 pmWent to Borders today - fun with Educator Appreciation. We now have A Fish Called Wanda on DVD, among other things, and a paperback actor-covers LotR set. Dad wants to get a hardback set, and I think when he does that I get the paperbacks. yay!
Have completely lost thread of RPG World. Am attempting to catch up in the other window. Can't even find one of my stories - DUDE!
Anyway. What I meant to say was, this is the Why I Like LotR post.
And I'll actually start with why I avoided it for so long. That would be because Dad liked it, and when you're ten years old anything your parents like can't possibly be good. I think it's ultimately afrai's fault that I *did* read it instead of just waiting for the third movie.
Anyway. What keeps me coming back, other than defnintely NOT the second half of Two Towers, is:
*Good/evil conflict. Even if the evil does seem to be a bit pointless. (Morgan - with this being one of your nitpicks about it, I can definitely say you'll love Good Omens once you find it.)
*Proof that jewelry really shouldn't have a mind of its own. Final and clinching proof, even.
*All the plot twists you could ever need, and usually in places where they save the world. So they're funny plot twists, too!
*Slashability. Everywhere you look, slashability. Legolas and Gimli! Merry and Pippin! Sam and Frodo! And this coming from someone who says she rarely notices such things - so.
And when it comes to the movies... pretty scenery (though they do overdo the majestic pans of New Zealand a bit) and pretty actors. Really need Two Towers on DVD - I've about exhausted the color commentary potential in Fellowship.
Oh, and I meant to mention it last night - I'm now officially an award-winning writer. Entered the library's writing contest and got second place. There were two first place people, and my parents said they like mine better than either of the first-place. XD
I'll post it later, or at least a link to it.
