Nearly halfway done with Fellowship - would probably be farther along if not for the roadside distractions known as real life. This is going to be one of those books where there's a lot of pages, but DAMN do they go by fast. (See also American Gods for further thick-but-fast reading.)
Really, my issue with the Merry and Pippin characterization (book vs. movie) is they aren't doing much devious-type scheming in the movie. You know.
I'm not sure about afrai's Tom-Bombadil-is-Hungarian theory. maybe Goldberry is Scandinavian? (Mostly putting that bit in so I remember to tell her come February.)
Had the book with me at lunch, which got a "*please* tell me this isn't the first time you're reading that" from one of my friends. Well, it is, but at least I'm reading it. Dad said to ask him how quickly he got through the first time he read it, seeing as I'll be a bit farther along tomorrow. XD

And now, for the song comarison thing as mentioned last night. Probable spoilers, if you care about such things in your music. (Hey, you never know...)

"Pictures of Lily" - About a kid who cures his insomnia with the help of some photos his dad lends him of... someone name Lily (there's a shocker). He winds up falling in love with her thanks to the pictures. Problem is, she's dead. (This is a Who song, by the way - don't think I mentioned that last night. Well worth seeking it out and downloading and suchlike.)
"Barrel of a Gun" - The guy's apparently in love with some movie star or other, and it seems to be attributed to a poster of her. To the point of him having morally questionable dreams involving said movie star.
I like them both, but I like "Pictures of Lily" more. There are better Guster songs. Come to that, there are better Who songs. Eh.

I saw you post something about this before, and I spent the rest of the day with Moon crooning "Pictures of Lily, Lily oh Lily, Lily oh Lily..." in my head. :) My favorite song by my favorite band.
