when there's nothing on your side
23 Sep 2004 03:26 pmNo classes today! This school has the coolest traditions ever. Bwaha.
1. Why did you decide to learn Japanese?
Recommendation from scheduling people when they sent out preregistration: Take something you haven't taken before. Other than bits of fangirl Japanese and karate stuff (though all I really remember of that is the counting), it certainly fits the bill. There's also the school's language requirement, which I'd be filling with Spanish if Spanish wasn't at the same time as... oh, all the rest of my classes.
2. What lost kingdom (ie, Shangri-La, El Dorado, Ophir, etc) would you most like to discover, and why?
...Hmm. I dunno. Atlantis, maybe - sounds interesting.
3. What was the last novel that made you cry?
Last book I remember actively shedding tears over was Where the Red Fern Grows, back in fifth grade - a start to the grand tradition of 'let's assign books where everyone dies at the end!' Things that have come close since then are HP5 and Night Watch (Reg!).
L4. Is there any piece of music you feel has had a lasting influence on you?
Oh, now THERE's a dangerous question. There're quite a few, but I'll try and keep this manageable.
*Gordon, BNL's first album. I was in kindergarten, my parents brought it home, and that was the end of it right there. Crazy enough to catch my attention at age six, and intelligent enough that I still love it now (along with the rest of their stuff).
*Just about anything by Todd Rundgren. And he's recorded a little bit of everything, too. Fun, sappy, angry, dirty, silly - you name it.
*And there're several things that I grew up listening to (the Raisins, Simon Townshend, Pousette-Dart Band...), then for some reason didn't hear again till high school. And then I sorted out how to work the record player just to listen to that stuff. When it's worth getting up at the end of the song just to hear it again, it's good stuff.
5. Are there any foodstuffs you actively hate?
Oatmeal. Mom says my granmother ruined it for me at an early age by putting salt in. I refuse to try it again, at any rate.
Also mustard. And I can't get past the smell of pickles.
And now, I think I shall go outside.
