I ought to revive the Everything I Need to Know I Learned From RPing list. Have an addition: When the RPer's away, send the character(s) on a roadtrip.
Back when buggreallethis was thriving*, I sent Pestilence on a trip to India. (I think that one was retroactive; didn't plan getting kicked off the 'puter for grades.) Celestina put it into effect in December - carrying a plot by yourself for that long is not very easy. And I'm about to use it again, seeing as I'll be gone for a week and don't know how else to account for it.

*It's been months since that poor RPG saw any action. Adam posted something today, and that's the first post from someone other than my character in AGES. I'd give up on it if it weren't so much fun.
