OK, so maybe I'm a little unbalanced, mentally. Maybe I just read too much. Maybe I'm just this desperate to get the Shrub out of the White House. But I really think this might work.
The premise of the US Constitution is to limit the national government, yes? I've got someone in mind who would pretty much let things run themselves. You don't get much more limited than that, I don't think.
This is also someone who foresees all possible outcomes and prepares for them, so if everything goes down the toilet, we'd be in good hands.
Is the current budget deficit your biggest concern? I think it's safe to say that under this particular leadership, said deficit would be well on its way to being rectified.
Fourth and perhaps most importantly - after the fiasco that was the 2000 election, I'm offering a firm believer in the principle of 'one man, one vote.'

Er... I can virtually guarantee that the above didn't make any sense to those of you who haven't read any Discworld before. What can I say other than you really, really should? And I think all of my points are backed by canon at some point.
Icon's free for the taking, if you so choose. I'd be using it myself except I love my current set too much, so it's going in the user info. You don't even have to credit it, though I'd love it if you did.

I'd vote for him!

Except I sort of live in the wrong country.

If I weren't already a staunch support of the Macedonian Party (finally, a perfect opportunity to use the icon!), I would so use that icon.

I'd so vote for him, I think I might just have to use this...
is it ok if I change it to say Vetinari for BC? Giving you full credit of course, if not its cool and I'll just leave it as is.

I'd say start small - say, Vimes for President, then, once Sam has managed to make the entire field of candidates commit suicide, confess to past misdemeanours or simply go mad, then Vetinari can step in and restore order. That way all this messy constitutional business would be avoided and we can truly appreciate how excellent he'd be.

It also gives us scope for cunning subterfuge involving poisonous candles and the like...

*cackle*

I'll vote for Vetinari! Especially if Vimes gets to be Secretary of State. Or some other appropriate position.

I don't particularly ascribe to Lord Vetinari's rather utilitarian brand of morals myself, but you've got to admit taht it works, and that there's not a shred of hypocrisy in it, which could be a nice change.

Considering how he felt about his diplomatic errands, no amount of dartboards could make Vimes take the job of Secretary of State. Head of the CIA/FBI/Somethinglikethat, maybe, but since it's Vimes, he'd have to do everything up-front. Which, after the whole patriot act thing, would be another nice change.

Oh, I do love this idea. Can Granny Weatherwax be Secretary of Health and Human Services? And can we get Rincewind into the cabinet somehow?

hahaha - thank you! I'm taking one. I wonder who will complete the ticket? I'd like Vimes, of course, but I think he'd rather be back on the beat ... Carrot, maybe?

Vote Vetinari!

I shall most definitely take the icon and credit you. Thank you for solving my moral delima. I was just going to not vote this year, but now........I will Vote Vetinari.
As to who should share the ticket, um, not Carrot. Carrot would only rule if we really needed him, and he would not share the throne, er, office. He wouldn't be able to. How about Nanny Ogg? Or one of the Wee Free Men........

The cabinet positions....

I would switch Granny and Nanny there. Don't you remember how Granny Weatherwax took that book publisher apart? (and by the numbers, too.) Besides, doesn't Treasury also head Secret Service? Not that I grudge Nanny all those young, handsome lads in sunglasses..... but lets face it; Granny is just a bit tougher. (and sneakier - if you can call someone who kicks in the front door, scaring you to shoot yourself in the foot -and making you apologize for it- *sneaky*)

That=sheer brilliance.

Of course, I'd love it if an entire cast of Discworld people were running the government, but if we can't get the rest of them here, Vetinari is an excellent start.

hi! could i suggest icons based on the Diskworld picture book for the campaign? they've got great pix of Vetinari there. Oh, and I'm sorry but I'm not a US citizen, so I don't think I can help. :((
