OK, so maybe I'm a little unbalanced, mentally. Maybe I just read too much. Maybe I'm just this desperate to get the Shrub out of the White House. But I really think this might work.
The premise of the US Constitution is to limit the national government, yes? I've got someone in mind who would pretty much let things run themselves. You don't get much more limited than that, I don't think.
This is also someone who foresees all possible outcomes and prepares for them, so if everything goes down the toilet, we'd be in good hands.
Is the current budget deficit your biggest concern? I think it's safe to say that under this particular leadership, said deficit would be well on its way to being rectified.
Fourth and perhaps most importantly - after the fiasco that was the 2000 election, I'm offering a firm believer in the principle of 'one man, one vote.'

Er... I can virtually guarantee that the above didn't make any sense to those of you who haven't read any Discworld before. What can I say other than you really, really should? And I think all of my points are backed by canon at some point.
Icon's free for the taking, if you so choose. I'd be using it myself except I love my current set too much, so it's going in the user info. You don't even have to credit it, though I'd love it if you did.

(And I meant it about the write-in vote. If no one else looks better I'll write him down and hope I turn a few heads with the vote-counters.)

I'll vote for Vetinari! Especially if Vimes gets to be Secretary of State. Or some other appropriate position.

Date: 2004-03-01 03:22 pm (UTC)I don't particularly ascribe to Lord Vetinari's rather utilitarian brand of morals myself, but you've got to admit taht it works, and that there's not a shred of hypocrisy in it, which could be a nice change.
Considering how he felt about his diplomatic errands, no amount of dartboards could make Vimes take the job of Secretary of State. Head of the CIA/FBI/Somethinglikethat, maybe, but since it's Vimes, he'd have to do everything up-front. Which, after the whole patriot act thing, would be another nice change.

Date: 2004-03-01 03:37 pm (UTC)And I forgot a point earlier - practically no campaign expenses. He wouldn't need any flashy advertisements. (Heck, just entrust Reg Shoe with a can of paint and the words and you've got the adverts covered!)

Date: 2004-03-01 06:52 pm (UTC)I'm still keeping an eye on that end of things, of course - I figure if one of the real candidates is worth it I may as well put my vote to good use. Funnily enough, that's also the write-in logic, but substituting 'none' for 'one.'

Date: 2004-09-16 10:17 pm (UTC)Of course, I'd love it if an entire cast of Discworld people were running the government, but if we can't get the rest of them here, Vetinari is an excellent start.
