Moony help need more tech support!
13 Aug 2003 09:47 pmFound OSX all right.
But, but, how do I get my Photoshop and my 'net favorites-list and all my typed-up crap back?! (Really, the second is the least important of the three. And it's not just my documents I've gotta save, it's Mom's and Dad's.)
HELP.
(ETA: On a completely unrelated note, RPGage is finally up. Part of it was influenced by Neverwhere; I knew of the circumstances before but the book made me think of it as a plot point. And Dad mentioned another bit. ::smirk::)

Well, the problem with OSX is that your Photoshop, if for OS9, will only work in OS9. You can still use it, however, you just have to run it in classic mode - which by all counts it should do automatically, but if it does not you need to go up to the Apple menu and open the System prefs, and there is a little icon with the OS9 symbol on it. You click that and you get a window that asks you if you want to start classic, which is basically having both OS9 and OSX running at once. And then you can use Photoshop.
Otherwise, you have to buy Photoshop for OSX and it is not cheap.
Your favourites - erf, I've never been able to figure out how to transfer those from 9 to X. You might have to e-mail them to yourself and then pick them up while running OSX. It depends on what browser you are going to be using.
Your documents are all still there - Look in your HD for a folder called Desktop OS9, and you'll find all your stuff in there. You should. It's like the staircases at Hogwarts - they like to change.
I would recommend reading the OSX book your computer should have come with, or going to apple.com and paging through the OSX tutorials. They really do help. :)
GOOD LUCK :-*

Date: 2003-08-13 07:43 pm (UTC)And like I said, the favorite-list isn't too tremendous of a deal. Started rebuilding it when I got online from here, just I've got some... strange links on the other that I don't remember offhand. So.
And YAY. I didn't figure the computer'd dump all the documents. Apple designers tend to be... wossname... better prepared or something like that.
We've got this big fat book about using the computer but it's faster (for me, anyway) to send out an SOS than flip through the index, flip back through the pages, and not necessarily find what I need. XD
THANK YOU!

Date: 2003-08-13 11:13 pm (UTC)Depending on your browser, you should have a file somewhere in your OS 9 preferences folder, within the browser's preferences folder, called "favorites.html" or "bookmarks.html" -- you can either fiddle about trying to import it, or just use it as an html page with a lot of links. Assuming I understand you correctly, that is.

OS X isn't too hard to figure out, really, once you get the hang of it. And it's a lot more stable than OS 9.
