not a perfect metaphor

For the longest time, she was the one of the 'cousins', as we're dubbed by the adults, that I could talk the most to. But then we because completely different people and our lives took us down different paths, ones that were in the complete opposite direction of the other. With that and the fact that I hardly ever see her, I almost can't talk to her anymore. I try, but it just doesn't happen.

Some things just turn out that way, whether we want them to or not.
