crazedcrusader: reading the original RENT film script gives me evil, evil au ideas.
me: ...?
crazedcrusader: Have you read it?
me: No, but I think I've heard a bit about it.
crazedcrusader: In 'Out Tonight', originally the guys were gonna drag Roger to the Cat Scratch and make him watch Mimi dance, and he was gonna get mad and leave...I have this image of the others coming back to the loft and finding the place empty, Roger's stuff all gone and a note. "You wanted me out of the Loft? I'm gone."
me: ...ack.
crazedcrusader: Thing is, I have no idea where to go with it from there.
me: oh dear.
crazedcrusader: I mean, presumbably Roger would go mope elsewhere, Mimi would just keep using, badness would keep happening...
me: rather.
crazedcrusader: Unless it's another crossover. And I write too many of those as it is.
crazedcrusader: *ponders what sort of crossoverly adventure she could make Roger go through and still end up coming back to NY*
crazedcrusader: I just...no.
crazedcrusader: *sternly tells self it can't be a Rent/HP crossover*
me: ::snerk:: No rather.
crazedcrusader: Much as the idea of Roger sekretly being a wizard would amuse me.
crazedcrusader: Roger: *puts an Itching Hex on Benny's underwear*
me: ...XD
crazedcrusader: Mark: *gets a postcard from London* *makes dots*
me: poor Mark. XD
crazedcrusader: *tries to be strict with self* *likes the idea too damn much*
me: It *is* entertaining, though... Roger? Potterverse?
crazedcrusader: Yeeeah.
me: That's gonna need one damn convincing explanation.
crazedcrusader: I know. And I lose at those.
crazedcrusader: Mind, it's not as if we know a whole lot about his past from the show.
me: Or anyone's past. You get the most hints of Mark's.
crazedcrusader: Maybe his father was a wizard and was killed in the war and that's why Roger does't talk about it.
me: ::snerk::
crazedcrusader: ....god help me I'm gonna write this.
crazedcrusader: *prods at fic idea* ...Roger's father was in the Order, and Dumbledore tries to get Roger involved.
crazedcrusader: And Roger's just like "....no. seen enough of death in my life already thanks."
crazedcrusader: *wonders vaguely what House Roger would have been in if he was British*
me: The House of Snark. I dunno. XD
me: All that ego, I'd say one of the two that get talked about the most. XD
crazedcrusader: I'm thinking not ambitious enough for Slytherin.
me: It's more who you are/most likely will be at eleven rather than who you are seven months after your girlfriend's suicide, after all.
me: ...Rock star, Val.
me: Rock star.
crazedcrusader: ....okay, fair point.
crazedcrusader:
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
me: ::snerk::
crazedcrusader: *thinks Aly has it pretty much summed up*
me: So... rock star with a side of reckless.
me: It's a toss-up between the other two.
crazedcrusader: Ballsy enough to move across country with no money...
crazedcrusader: Of course we have no way of knowing what Roger was like at eleven.
crazedcrusader: For all we know he was sekretly a statistics swot, though.....it seems unlikely.
me: I'm thinking a lot of 'I'm gonna be a rock star!'
me: Prolly with the occasional looking-for-trouble bit that eventually led to the heroin.
me: ::snerk::
crazedcrusader: ....hm. I wonder if wizards can actually get Muggle diseases.
me: Don't see why not. I mean... people.
crazedcrusader: True.
me: Just they're easier to cure if you stay in that society.
crazedcrusader: And easier to endure.
me: ::nods::
crazedcrusader: ...maybe that's why Roger could handle going through withdrawal in the Loft without outside help.
me: ...hmm.
crazedcrusader: ...and Dumbledore uses the possibility of a cure to get Roger to come be useful.
me: ::snerk::
crazedcrusader: Because he's manipulative.
me: rather.
crazedcrusader: ...and Roger gets brought into the fold between OotP and HBP.
crazedcrusader: Or during HBP.
crazedcrusader: Roger: *out-emos the Boy Who Lived*
Everyone: *is shocked*
me: Ron: ...Bloody hell, bottle up that bloke's woe alongside Harry's and we could take out You-Know-Who, no trouble.
crazedcrusader: Snape: *makes a comment to roger about what could he possibly know about suffering*
me: Hermione: :: points out technical flaws in Ron's theory, starting with the fact that Moldyshorts seems to LIKE creating woe::
me: Ron: He didn't make *this* guy's woe.
me: Hermione: ...Point.
crazedcrusader: roger: ....*coolly* Should I start with the part where I found my girlfriend up to her navel in bloody water in our bathtub or the part where I'm dying slowly of a degenerative illness that there's no cure for even with magic?
me: Roger: ::wins at woe::
crazedcrusader: People: *wince*
crazedcrusader: Snape: *shuts up*
crazedcrusader: Roger: Plus, it's a contagious illness, so I can't get involved with anyone or they'll get it too.
crazedcrusader: Molly: *...feeds Roger, as this is her automatic reply to basically any badness ever*
me: people: ::are variously sympathetic, confused, or wondering why he'd want to get involved with anyone in the first place::
me: ...Roger and Remus might actually find some common ground.
crazedcrusader: Yeeeah.
me: Remus: ...You know sulking won't do you much good.
me: Roger: Your point?
me: Remus: ::offers chocolate::
crazedcrusader: Roger: ....people keep feeding me.
me: everyone: ::keeps Roger AWAY FROM THE DEMENTORS::
crazedcrusader: Roger: *sends care packages of Molly's cooking to Mark*
me: Mark: ...WTF, how did this survive overseas delivery?
crazedcrusader: People: *come over for dinner a lot more*
me: dinner: ::likely gets taken to Angel when hospital enters the picture::
crazedcrusader: Roger: *sekretly apparates to new York and tries to fix Angel when it starts to get bad*
me: ...awwwwwwww.
me: it: ::...miiiight help delay the inevitable, anyway::
crazedcrusader: He can do warming charms, keep Angel comfortable, at least.
me: ::nods::
me: Angel: ::appreciates!::
crazedcrusader: I sort of like the idea of Roger sekretly coming to see Angel and the others eventually catching him there.
me: Mark: ...Okay, this has something to do with all that damn food. You are explaining. NOW.
crazedcrusader: Roger: *shifty* ....hi.
me: Angel: You get to explain. Even if I knew all the details, I don't have the energy.
crazedcrusader: Roger: ....I can't.
me: Mark: Yeah right.
crazedcrusader: Roger: No, really. I can't.
me: Angel: Look, honey, they're not gonna tell anyone else. But they *will* keep bothering you till you explain. We're all stubborn here.
crazedcrusader: Roger: ....I...there's laws...
me: Angel: ::shrugs:: Go home first, then.
crazedcrusader: Roger: ....yeah, I should go. I'll be back. *goes*
me: Mark: ...
me: Angel: It'll all make sense. I just don't know enough to try explaining.
crazedcrusader: Roger: *returns* *by Apparating into the middle of the room*
me: Mark: :: prolly jumps about three feet::
me: Angel: ...Nope, still not used to that. ::grins::
crazedcrusader: Roger: *casual* Hi Angel.
me: Angel: Hi.
me: Mark: I... you... but the... and the... ? ::flails::
crazedcrusader: Roger: *puts down a thermos* Molly sent you tea.
me: Angel: Great. Nobody in this damn hospital can make it right.
me: Mark: ::continues flailing apace::
crazedcrusader: Roger: *tells them all everything*
crazedcrusader: Roger: *looks at watch* Now if you'll excuse me I have a war to fight. *Disapparates*
me: Mark: ::jumps again::
crazedcrusader: Somebody: .....war?
crazedcrusader: There: *is probably flail*
me: Angel: Oh, Roger? Mimi said you'd better stay alive on account of her still being interested.
crazedcrusader: Roger: .................*flail* I....but....she.....
me: Angel: ::Looks at him:: You got nothing to worry about in that regard.
crazedcrusader: Roger: .....oh. *quiet*
crazedcrusader: Roger: *conjures a big bouquet of flowers and knocks on Mimi's door*
me: Mimi: ............wtf.
crazedcrusader: Roger: Hey. *quiet* I'm sorry.
me: Mimi: ...for what?
crazedcrusader: Roger: For not giving you a chance.
me: Mimi: Angel put an idea in your head, then? ::smiles::
crazedcrusader: Roger: ....I didn't know that you were sick too. I thought...I was trying to...*trails off* *quiet* I'm interested. If you still are.
me: Mimi: ...Well. It might take more than some fancy flowers to get back on my good side, but you shouldn't have any problem with that. ::grins::
crazedcrusader: Roger: .....want to go get dinner?
me: Mimi: Sure.
crazedcrusader: Roger: *takes her out* *someplace nice*
...So much for that illusion of productivity.
ETA: Companion piece, of sorts.
