And now, for a tangent: I think all the stuff re: Heath Ledger is helping me get some perspective on the fascination with River Phoenix. I was too young to notice or care when he died, so now most of my reaction is '...um, Earth to Youtube, there are bits of Sneakers that are cool and don't have Carl in them.' (And you know, Carl is awesome. But where are the props for Whistler driving?) I've been puzzling over it for a while now.
But... now I think I kinda get it. Promising young actor, in a few really good movies, suddenly dead before 30 due to a stupid accident (or accidental stupidity, depending on which case you're talking about). A lot of it probably springs from wondering what else they could have done, if only.
It's like that bit in Soul Music where, to the music, the whole point is getting people to think about what they're missing.
