Meanwhile, Fic Friday! Leave prompts here if you're so inclined and I'll drop you a couple sentences or so of fic.

Still have a bit of a cough (stupid plague).
Heat's on! OH BOY IS THE HEAT ON. Seems with radiators it's all or nothing. oops?
Hil found me a copy of Villains By Necessity for my birthday! It's in amazing shape, too; there's a slight crease down the front cover and that's it. BEST EVER.
a short scene from last weekend )
And now: FIC FRIDAY.
again, a smattering of fandoms )

So, the Things that are Afoot: I'm moving to Connecticut this weekend.
It's been a long time coming, and I'm very glad to finally be getting around to it. My last day at work was Wednesday; I'll possibly be transferring to another store up there (the chain makes it ridiculously easy) and definitely looking for full-time work, which should be much easier once I'm in the place I'm looking for a job.
I have one more box for 'things to be shipped later' and no idea what to put in it; I think that's a sign I have too much crap. XD
I'm looking forward to being in the same area as my friends again. I'm doubly looking forward to finally not being in a long-distance relationship anymore, it only took for freaking ever. But it's well worth the wait.
(Also, I need to actually get this song at some point. It does that... 'grabs you by the heart and doesn't let go' thing.)
minkhollow: (two generations of win)
There's an interview meme going around, and I got some questions from [personal profile] ceitfianna:
questions that need answering! )
If you want to play, I can't guarantee I'll be quick to produce questions (that's always my downfall on this type), but:
Comment to this post, and I will list seven things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random.

Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.
minkhollow: (happy hogswatch!)
Question of the month, brought to you by the 'all Christmas all the time! (as long as it was recorded before 1960)' music mix at work: Who decided 'these are a few of my favorite things' was a Christmas song, anyway?
(Overthinking that accompanies the question: I mean, you can't even use it as someone's wish list. Snowflakes that stay on one's nose and eyelashes are difficult to wrap, and getting someone girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes would probably lead to messy legal problems.)
(Mental image that accompanies the question: Person opens a package full o'... nothing! and gets pissed; buddy says, "What? You said you liked brown paper packages tied up with string.")
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (i'm wearing a vegetable!)
One of these days I will make a full list of my 'vids I wish existed' ideas. I have neither the time nor the computer capacity to start learning how to do it myself right now.
But in the meantime, this needs to be a Doctor Who vid starring Amy, stat.
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
[Error: unknown template qotd]

...what, just one? That's even more impossible than picking my favorite song. So, a little something that really resonates with me as a writer:

has a name, but the name goes unspoken
it's in vain, 'cause the language is broken
so cast your own, cast your own

-"Fitz and the Dizzyspells" - Andrew Bird

(I could quite literally be at this all night; I've considered five different things so far. So I think I'll stop there.)
minkhollow: (song of the viking)
This is why I adore Todd Rundgren, in a nutshell.
Meanwhile: Anyone else who uses Adium been having trouble getting it to automatically sign them into AIM? It's still remembering my password, but I keep having to deal with a 'please sign into AIM' dialog box, sometimes two or three times before I get it to log me in.
minkhollow: Help!: The Exciting Adventure of Paul on the Floor (paul on the floor)
See, I knew there's be a meme sooner or later: Put your music on random, and use the song that comes up. No cheating.
in which I likely over-think a few of these )
minkhollow: (happy hogswatch!)
So last year, when they started the 'all Christmas all the time' thing at work, I wished they'd add a few more Christmas carols (here meaning the 'so how about that Jesus guy! he's awesome!' songs) to the mix. This year, they have... but they also haven't played anything newer than the Beach Boys. Still feels like they're only playing about five different songs.
Finished Graceling the other day. It's not a bad story, but the sentence fragments where there should've been a list-in-one-sentence kinda drove me nuts.
My [livejournal.com profile] yuletide assignment is almost done! The extra time to percolate was exactly what it needed. Also, I think I have achieved a MYSTERY. \o/
Have revamped my resume. Hopefully that will help spur me on in my Epic Job Hunt o' Doom.
minkhollow: (all right. tahiti!)
Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane: Pick 20 movies/anime/video games/literary works and put their summaries from better than it sounds and WITHOUT CHEATING have your friends guess.
oh, meme. )
Also: Yesterday I broiled some fish all by myself, and it didn't end in disaster. I think this is a pretty good achievement.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (it's oxidizing.)
So, guess-the-lyrics meme, because I enjoy it. 20 songs under the cut; first or second lines. Current music is not a spoiler.
if anyone guesses 9, 14, 17, 19 or 20, you get MEGA BONUS POINTS. )
minkhollow: (wtf mate)
So Mom found this on Facebook, and I finally got around to having a look. In conclusion: I have no idea what's going on in the video, BUT THE SONG IS AMAZING (but I've known that part since I was five).
Fear is Never Boring - the Raisins
I highly recommend it, if mainly for the audio portion of the day's entertainment.
minkhollow: (whiskey tango foxtrot)
GIP and subject line brought to you by last night's funtimes. (I am so glad I gave into the temptation.)
And now, for something completely different: 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' is a bloody weird song. "Merry Christmas! NOW GIVE ME SOME DAMN DESSERT OR I WON'T LEAVE YOU ALONE, I CAN WAIT ALL DAY." (I am also so glad tomorrow's the likely end of the Christmas music at work.)
Also also, there is a [livejournal.com profile] yuletide story up in [tiny fandom I nominated]! Whether it's my request or the other requester's, I don't know, BUT EITHER WAY.
On that note, I think I should be off to Borders. Weather's likely to be sucktastic tomorrow, or I'd go after work then.
minkhollow: (plot bunny troubles)
Barring someone calling off, I... appear to have a weekend off. I think that's the first time that's happened since I got the job. Did some Christmas shopping after work; more to come Sunday. Haven't decided between Oxford or Borders (or both, but they're in opposite directions, is the thing) yet.
Dad turned on Andrew Bird on his iPod, on the drive home from dinner last night. That... seemed to be exactly what I needed, so I'm following suit on the big computer tonight. I do not, as predicted, miss the dog howling because OMG THERE ARE VIOLINS.
[livejournal.com profile] yuletide uploading is up! I've got my assignment and Yulebunny posted; now it's back to poking at the next Yulebunny. (Which is terrifying because [character] says things like [COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS PHRASE] and I might have to capture that and I'm not sure I can. But it's one of the things I love most about [fandom], so! Cryptic parenthetical is cryptic.)
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
So. I'm not at a basketball game (Miami-UC tonight), nor am I at a concert (Barenaked Ladies et al at the Taft). But that's okay.
My [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic is back from beta and approved, that was some of the fastest app turnaround I've seen in ages, and I got some other good news today - full squee will be divulged later, on that front. So I'm calling it a good day.
(Subject line is from a thing on the radio this evening: Christmas carols to the tune of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Between the overdose of Christmas carols at work and the fact that the song works best in small, infrequent doses... I approve.)
minkhollow: Steven Banks: Elvis gotta write a speech now (elvis... gotta write a speech now)
*[livejournal.com profile] hogswatchfic is open for business; sign-ups run until the 13th, and fics are due the 31st. If you missed Yuletide/are avoiding it/just want to write Generic Winter Holidays fic for someone, give it a go!
*Snow on the ground and my profile! Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] gehayi!
*I'm passing up a concert on Thursday, partly because I first heard about it Saturday. I'd love to see BNL again, but they're sharing the bill with three other bands, so it's not really a sound investment.
*Heat's been down at work, which is where the subject line comes in. Yesterday there were space heaters, which made it better; I'm hoping it'll be functional again when I go back Wednesday.
*And now... the dog.
in which the news is not surprising, but still sucks )
*Yuletide assignment might be finished. I need to type it up and assemble a beta squad before I know for sure. Oh, [fandom], how I've missed you.
*But first, I need to assemble something to go with [livejournal.com profile] quinby's birthday card.
minkhollow: (plot bunny troubles)
*Hey, anyone want to set themselves up with an AO3 account? Open beta's launching in the wee hours of tomorrow morning my time, and I have one (1) invite code (ahaha!).
*In today's free physics lesson: Turns out two cars still can't occupy the same space at the same time. I'm okay; my involvement went as far as making sure it got called in and taking the long way home.
*Basketball season is alive and well! Dad and I went to Miami's exhibition game on Sunday. In conclusion, THIS IS GOING TO BE A GOOD SEASON.
*Drowned my headphones last week; the pull-down handle in front of the sink caught them. My replacement pair is v. kickass.
*GIP.
minkhollow: (plot bunny troubles)
So Noble Beast is my big music thing of the moment, I think. Finally listened to the whole thing after the concert, and... basically, there is nothing wrong with the world when I have that on.
(Also, in Why I Love Andrew Bird: He uses words like 'sociopaths' and 'eviction' and 'fratricide' effortlessly. I heart big words in songs.)
I'm having another of my vaguely-tempted-by-Twitter moments. Not sure if I'll give in this time.
I need to get my writing groove back, and figure out whether I'm going to try Nano (either in it purest form, where I'd probably try to focus on the Vincenia novel, or as a conglomerate of my November word count). This will take some grokking.
minkhollow: (leap of faith)
So, Andrew Bird. In conclusion: All the hype that I have mostly picked up from [livejournal.com profile] agonistes in Milliways OOC chatter? More than justified.
amaaaaaaazing. )
