minkhollow: (two generations of win)
It is YULETIDE REC TIME, people! Starting from the back of the alphabet because that gets me to Warehouse 13 faster.
(As for things I wrote: Four out of four recips very happy with their stories. Which makes me especially happy because - that awkward moment when stories go live and you see someone treated your recip with something very close to what you wrote them. Not that I blame the other writer; if it hadn't been my assignment I would've tackled it too. XD)
anyway, recs! )
minkhollow: Robert Redford pointing, from Sneakers (sometimes i don't understand myself)
CHECK OUT THIS AWESOMENESS, YOU GUYS.

Whistler's Coda, in which Whistler and Liz are the best people ever.

Also, the Standard Yuletide Challenge stands: Guess what I wrote and I'll write you a thing! I have four stories up this year, in three different fandoms.
minkhollow: (what is this i don't even)
I don't really have much to say about Friday, other than: There are several discussions that bear having. Can we, I dunno, have them now and not place all the blame on one factor or another?
Meanwhile, Yuletides-past meme! (Current: Assignment's posted; one potential treat is looking more and more like an NYR every day [I like what I want to tell but I think I've framed it wrong]; another is almost to the minimum and I need to get off my arse; haven't claimed any pinch hits but I've saved a couple.)
link *all* the fic? )
minkhollow: (happy hogswatch!)
Dear Yule Goat,
herein lies fandom squee )
In closing: Thank you so much, once again! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. :D
minkhollow: (but remember: i'm aquaman!)
So there's the 'shout fruit at me and I'll interview you' meme going around, and I shouted some fruit at [livejournal.com profile] camwyn:
in which one of the questions is ridiculously easy, and the others are not so much )
Shout fruit at me, if you like, but fair warning: I'm historically crap at coming up with questions for these things.

And stealing another meme from [livejournal.com profile] fahye: Those of us who don't participate in the annual Remix challenge -- and, hell, those of us who do -- sometimes wonder which one of our fics someone might remix, and if so, what they might do with it.
minkhollow: (the complete blueprints)
I like the Yule Goat thing, so I think I'll run with that this year. (You gotta love a holiday mascot that's been run over by rockabilly fans in a classic car. XD)
And so, Dear Yule Goat:
AND WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR HOGSWATCH, SMALL HUMAN? )
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (his name pirate guy!)
Meme time! From Lexie:
Association Meme: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.
I don't know how long-winded this will get, so. )
In other news, Dr. Horrible is excellent driving music, if you don't mind hearing the same thing several times due to its shortness. Which I don't, as it is fun times!
minkhollow: (all designed to blow our minds)
ALSO. So I've finally seen this Dr. Horrible thing.
1) Even knowing it was a classic Whedon ending, WHAT THE HELL.
2) Otherwise, adorable!
3) More accessible insane theory of the day: So Cosmo totally does finances for the Evil League of Evil, yes? YES. (Organised crime, and all that.)
4) Less accessible insane theory: Dr. Horrible and Sam from Villains By Necessity; separated at birth, Y/N? (Y. Y Y Y.)

So, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide reveals.
I wrote Second Wind, my initial assignment for [livejournal.com profile] kyburg, and A Matter of Presentation, a stocking-stuffer for Ponderosa. Both are Sneakers, and the promised commentary for at least one may yet follow.
Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] marginaliana for Undercover Work, and to [livejournal.com profile] florahart for Blackguard (PS; Glad to have introduced you to the book. You did a LOVELY job).
minkhollow: (happy hogswatch!)
OH MY GOD
SO LIKE BEFORE SLEEP I NEED TO CAPSLOCK ABOUT YULETIDE
BECAUSE LOOK LOOK I GOT VILLAINS BY NECESSITY FIC AND IT IS AWESOME
(I ALSO GOT EQUALLY AWESOME SNEAKERS FIC)
BUT MOSTLY EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I AM SO GLAD I SIGNED UP THIS YEAR
(WHO NEEDS PUNCTUATION AT THIS HOUR)

Unearthed some of my winter clothes this morning. Dad wondered if I don't have enough drawers to hold everything, and... I probably do, but (a) I left stuff in boxes in May anyway, and (b) I rarely remember I have those drawers. My brain works in mysterious ways, more often than not.
In other news: Job hunt is job-hunt-like, I have committed crossover, and one of my original ideas is attempting to get noisy again. I approve of all of the above.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (bold and stupid icon)
I think I begin to see the self-medicating value of driving fast and loud music. Nothing I plan to do on a regular basis, of course, but.
Weekend was most excellent; [livejournal.com profile] quinby and also [livejournal.com profile] _chibidragon_, if she made it over for the beginning of the show, now know the logic behind this icon. XD
Quin and I also should not be allowed to plot, as things like this happen. (I should also suck it up and give Iron Man a tag; will have to grok that.)
Signed up for [livejournal.com profile] yuletide this year, since I don't have college to get in the way, for a change. Put in Sneakers, Daria, Night at the Museum, Stardust (the film), and Villains By Necessity. Should be fun.
note to self: Milliways car keys posts )

*So I had a phone interview Wednesday, with one of the places I applied to in DC. Consensus: mentioning that there is an in-person-interview component was probably a good sign. (To that end, any DC-area people who wouldn't mind someone crashing for a couple nights?)
*Job hunt continues, both here and abroad.
*Yesterday was bookended by the dog exploding in my bathroom. At... least it's easier to clean than a carpet or the hardwood? But STILL.
*[livejournal.com profile] allfireburns, the book is in the mail as of this afternoon; should get there sometime next week.
*I have been writing stuff! This is of the Good.
*...Economy news still makes me feel like Cosmo is taking over the world after all. This is not such a comforting thought, much as he's one of my favorite bad guys ever.
minkhollow: (it's all about the information)
*I think it's a reflection of my geekery that my first thought on the latest bailout news is "Posit: People think a bank might be financially shaky."
*Repairman has been waited for; turns out we can fix the grill ourselves. Good to know.
*Since I didn't have to actually spend any money to do it, I'm going to call getting the Iron Man DVD an early birthday present to myself. And hey, expedited shipping was the same price as normal, so maybe it'll get here Thursday.
*Mom went on a roadtrip last weekend, and then the dizzy spells she had at the beginning of the school year... came back for a while, so Dad and I got to bail her out yesterday. (Three hours of highway driving survived!) Renaissance Festival might be happening this weekend.
Otherwise, life continues apace.
minkhollow: view from below a copper birch at Mount Holyoke (short attention span theatre)
Mom's plan for cleaning the pug mill (take it outside, apply hose until clay is gone) was a good one... until the garbage can it went outside on overfilled and tipped over. I'm just glad it didn't fall on me.
I really do need to collect the memes I owe people. But for now, Vids I Would Make If I Had the Know-how/Technology:
*Sneakers, to the tune of Eminence Front. (It would end with someone getting pistol-whipped. That's all I know for sure.)
*Sneakers, to the tune of Tables and Chairs, focusing on the end of the movie. ('cause this song just makes me go 'oh, Cosmo' and facepalm a lot. XD)
*Iron Man, to the tune of Real World, because I am now convinced that song is secretly about Tony Stark.
minkhollow: (we are the US government)
I was not fated to bring home any food ever on this vacation, clearly. I have Pocky and ramen at [livejournal.com profile] toki_usagi's, lo mein at [livejournal.com profile] gehayi's (but that's okay, really), and chocolate I didn't even buy still with [livejournal.com profile] quinby. ENTIRE SUNDAY STRIP of me going 'Jesus.'
anyway, vacation recap is pursuant )
In conclusion, awesome vacation was awesome.
